PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Faustino Burnett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bobby Rattler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Faustino Burnett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bobby Rattler!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Micheangelo Fripello and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Burnett tries to sprawl but Rattler drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Rattler sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Rattler is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Rattler postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Burnett to stand up.

Rattler is trying to control. Burnett wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Burnett is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Rattler pulls his head out easily.

Rattler advances to full mount.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Burnett takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Burnett really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Rattler can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Burnett is looking to escape.
A nice elbow there by Rattler.

Rattler get's back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Burnett looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Rattler prevents Burnett from breaking the clinch.

Burnett escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Burnett keeps the fight on the outside.
Rattler throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Burnett.

Rattler closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rattler has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Burnett works to full guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Rattler drops back, looking for a kneebar! Burnett looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Burnett looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Burnett!

Rattler is looking to regain half guard here but Burnett keeps moving and retains side control.

Burnett wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Rattler, who protects the arm well.
Rattler struggling a bit here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rattler tries to bench press Burnett off him but Burnett keeps the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bobby Rattler dominated that round.
That's time! Burnett's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Rattler tries to close the distance and clinch up but Burnett swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Rattler drives through and clinches with Burnett against the cage.
Rattler tries to land a knee to the head but Burnett blocks with his arms.

Rattler manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Rattler wants to get back to his feet but Burnett is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Burnett in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Burnett trying to control the position from guard on top but Rattler is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Burnett is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Burnett has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Rattler looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Burnett is looking to stand up but Rattler won't let him.
Rattler wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Burnett is now in half guard.
Rattler has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Burnett is working away from the top position though.
Rattler moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Burnett is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Rattler has his hands on Burnett's head, controlling the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Rattler closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Burnett quickly recovers to half guard.
Burnett is trying to get back to full guard.

Rattler stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rattler keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Rattler pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Burnett keeps the fight on the outside.

Rattler gets the takedown into side control.
Rattler controlling the position.
Rattler has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Rattler is breathing heavily.
Rattler throwing shots but missing, from side control.

A lull in the action here as Rattler stalls from top position.
Burnett is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Rattler taking a break here but Burnett is having none of it and regains half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bobby Rattler showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Rattler.

Rattler is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Burnett knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Rattler wants to control but Burnett is keeping him busy.

Rattler has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

enabling Burnett to counter with a crisp jab.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Rattler looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Rattler is trying to work for a kimura but Burnett is defending well.
Rattler takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Rattler wants to control but Burnett is keeping him busy.
Burnett regains full guard. Nicely done.

Rattler stands up out of the half guard.

Burnett gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Rattler to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Rattler stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Rattler drives through with a takedown into guard.
Rattler would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Burnett will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

I've got Rattler winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
