Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Justin Hurley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kelvin Spong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Justin Hurley!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kelvin Spong!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Tarja Halkonen and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Spong shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Spong showed some decent athleticism there.
Hurley on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hurley tries to get out of the position.
Spong with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Spong looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Hurley with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Spong has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Hurley tries to roll over but Spong keeps him under control.
Nice strikes from Spong there.
Hurley trying to control from the bottom.
Spong seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Hurley is trying to maintain the position but Spong is very close to passing his half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Spong connects with a nice short shot to Hurley's temple.
Spong is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Hurley tries to get to full guard but Spong has control of the leg.
Hurley knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Spong on the ground.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Spong is taking a breather. Hurley says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Hurley tries to get to full guard but Spong has control of the leg.
Hurley is working hard here to advance position.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
It looks like Spong might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Spong shoots in looking for a takedown. Hurley tries to sprawl out of it but Spong keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hurley manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Spong tries to clinch there but Hurley circles away.
Hurley misses with a series of wild punches.
Spong scores with the left hand. Hurley knows he should have avoided that one.
Spong is looking to clinch but Hurley is avoiding it.
Spong tests Hurley's chin there with a solid looking shot.
We've been told by Hurley's head coaches at Grappling Pro Helsinki that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Hurley on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Hurley keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Spong.
Hurley fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Spong misses the shot to the body.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hurley keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Hurley takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Spong throws a right hand that misses
letting Hurley counter with a right hand.
Hurley slips under a jab.

Spong drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Spong postures up and lands a big shot to Hurley's brow.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Spong working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.
Spong working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Hurley not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Hurley is really struggling to control Spong but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Spong working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Hurley's head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Spong controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Hurley is trying to control the position but Spong postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Spong's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Spong landing some decent shots from guard.
Spong missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Spong chips away with some ground and pound.
Hurley will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Spong working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Hurley's head.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Hurley holds on and takes a little breather.
Hurley working a defensive guard but Spong passes into half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Spong working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Spong lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Hurley wants to control but Spong is keeping busy and won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kelvin Spong dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Hurley gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Spong.
Hurley scores with a crisp jab that stopped Spong in his tracks.
Kelvin Spong seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Spong comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Spong throws a body shot but no joy.
Hurley takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

Spong gets the takedown into side control.
Hurley takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Spong trying to control the position but Hurley is working away.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hurley can't do much from the bottom here.
Hurley is looking for a sweep.
Hurley tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
Hurley tries to hold on but Spong postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Spong working Hurley over with strikes here.
Spong has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Hurley's face.


Hurley is rocked!
A big strike lands for Spong! That's really hurt Hurley and he's turned his back - Spong keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Spong jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kelvin Spong!
