PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between James Harbor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kaito Rin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rin has chosen Death Before Dishonor as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Harbor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 10 - 3, fighting out of Montreal, Kaito Rin!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Chris Downing and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Harbor throws an off balance right hand

and Rin counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Harbor!
Harbor tries to bench press Rin off him but Rin keeps the position.
Harbor gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Rin tries to pass the half guard into mount. Harbor knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Harbor works his way to full guard. Good work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Rin's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Rin postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Harbor controls Rin momentarily but Rin frees himself.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rin pushes down on Harbor's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Rin is trying to control. Harbor wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rin is looking for a kimura but Harbor is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Rin to get the leverage.
Rin has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Elite MMA Training Facility. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Rin thows a huge punch but Harbor dodges it nicely.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Harbor misses with a hook

and Rin counters with a shoot takedown. Harbor fights it but they end up in guard.
Harbor is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Harbor wants to control but Rin is keeping him busy.

Harbor thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Rin's head.

Rin tries to roll over but Harbor keeps him under control.
Harbor seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rin does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Harbor throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Rin has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Rin manages to get to full guard.
Rin keeping moving, preventing Harbor from controlling successfully.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Rin is trying to keep Harbor in close.
Harbor pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rin is keeping the position for now.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
We've been hearing that Harbor has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Rin utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

A looping hook to the body misses from Harbor. Rin does a little dance to reset his feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Rin tries to move into range but Harbor moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Harbor connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kaito Rin dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Harbor walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Rin cracks a nice hook into Harbor's ribs.
Rin has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Rin swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Harbor counters with a straight right hand.
Harbor jabs Rin right on the nose. Rin blinks but takes it well.
Harbor misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Rin.
Rin swings for the body but Harbor moves out of range.
Rin fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Harbor manages to avoid it.
A good leg kick by Rin.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Harbor lands with a right hand.
Harbor blocks a jab.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Rin.
Rin looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Rin avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
A telegraphed right hand from Harbor misses the target.
James Harbor is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Rin defending well as Harbor loads up on a big left hand.
Rin displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Harbor throws out the jab.
Rin bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Harbor's head.
Harbor swings for the body but Rin moves out of range.
Rin tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Harbor looks to land a right hand but Rin moved out of range.
Rin misses with a hook.
Harbor defending well as Rin loads up on a big left hand.

Harbor takes a swing at Rin's ribcage but misses.
Rin doesn't manage to clinch there - Harbor circles away.
Harbor lands a nice shot to the body.
Harbor slaps away a takedown attempt from Rin, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Rin throws a right hand that misses
and Harbor makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

and Rin counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Harbor!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Rin is looking to work some ground and pound but Harbor has wrist control.

Rin has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Harbor to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Rin is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Harbor pulls down on the head and he's put Rin to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:42 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). James Harbor!
Our winner, James Harbor, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
