Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Nicolas Kayj! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Edson Santos! The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Dirk Anderson and Winston Alpacca.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Santos misses with a low kick.
A telegraphed right hand from Santos misses the target. Kayj closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Santos is looking to regain half guard here but Kayj keeps moving and retains side control. Santos gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Kayj seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Santos trying to control but Kayj postures up.
Kayj not landing any meaningful shots this time. Santos is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Kayj pulls his head out easily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Santos is defending against the submission attempts here by Kayj.
Santos tries to get to full guard but Kayj has control of the leg. Kayj knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Santos on the ground.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nice strikes from Kayj there. Nice strikes from Kayj there. Santos avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Kayj. Santos is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Kayj pulls his head out easily. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Santos is pressing down on Kayj's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Santos is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Santos preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Kayj is in close to Santos's body, working some short punches and elbows. Santos throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Kayj stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Santos swivels though and keeps the full guard. Kayj throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Santos works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Santos looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Kayj chips away with some ground and pound. Kayj trying to control the position from guard on top but Santos is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Santos utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Kayj makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Santos working for a triangle but Kayj defends it easily.
Santos has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Kayj doesn't defend quickly enough and Santos has managed to lock this one up! Can Kayj escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Santos on a fantastic submission victory.
