Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Benny Winkler! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
26 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ilya Murometz! The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Colin Fray and Ryoma Takatsuka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Murometz fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Danga de danga de dang - Winkler scores with a four punch combination! Winkler throws a hook to the side of Murometz's head but Murometz sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Murometz jabbing away but nothing is landing. Murometz avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Murometz closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Murometz controlling from side mount. The ground and pound from Murometz seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Winkler wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Winkler knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Murometz on the ground.
That's one minute gone in the round. Winkler is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Murometz off and has taken his back! Murometz trying to get back to his feet but Winkler is in full control for now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Winkler not allowing Murometz to control his hands.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Murometz prevents Winkler from getting a body triangle. Murometz is trying to get back to his feet but Winkler has full control of the position and if anything, Murometz has just worked his way into a worse spot. Murometz is really stuck here.

Winkler is not going to allow Murometz to sit and survive in this position. Murometz is trying to stand back up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Winkler is looking to get the fight back to the feet. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Murometz just trying to survive but Winkler is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish. Murometz is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Winkler pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Murometz back to the cage. Winkler follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver. Ilya Murometz is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Winkler lands with an uppercut that bounces Murometz off the cage and back into range. Winkler jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Murometz throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Winkler's waist but Winkler gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Murometz off to one side. Murometz misses with a straight right. Murometz uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Winkler. Murometz tries to close the distance and clinch up but Winkler swats him away and circles back towards the center. Winkler throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Murometz instigates a clinch. Winkler has Murometz pressed against the cage, preventing Murometz from circling away and getting back to striking at range. A frustrated look appears on Winkler's face as he tries to break the clinch. Murometz breaks the clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sloppy strikes from Winkler. Those never looked like landing. Winkler throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Murometz counters with a one-two to the body. Murometz tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Winkler defends well and Murometz ends up having to push Winkler into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Murometz fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Winkler is trying to push Murometz away but Murometz has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Murometz works on Winkler's body with a couple of short punches. Winkler is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Murometz can do to turn this around? Murometz wants to break free but Winkler has control.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily. Murometz breaks from the clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Murometz ducks under a wild hook from Winkler. Winkler looks to land a right hand but Murometz moved out of range. Murometz fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Benny Winkler has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ilya Murometz. The fight stays on the outside here - Murometz looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Winkler scores with a nice right hand.
Winkler scores with the left hand. Murometz knows he should have avoided that one. Winkler cracks Murometz with a right hand to the side of the head. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Winkler throws a right hand that misses

That's three minutes gone in the round. Murometz scores with a nice strike. Winkler looks to land a combination but Murometz avoids it well. Winkler misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Murometz.
A telegraphed right hand from Murometz misses the target. Winkler is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all. Murometz uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Winkler.
Murometz drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Winkler is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Murometz slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Murometz is pushing down on Winkler's leg trying to pass to half guard. Winkler is fighting to maintain full guard but Murometz has managed to sneak the leg through.

We've been hearing good reports from Winkler's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Winkler won't allow Murometz to pass to mount. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Murometz is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Murometz fails to land with a series of punches.

Murometz will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Benny Winkler has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ilya Murometz. Murometz shoots in but Winkler avoids the takedown attempt easily. Murometz tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Winkler manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Murometz goes for a double leg but Winkler avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Winkler continues to drive forward.

Murometz connects with a crisp jab. Winkler fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Murometz is defended easily by Winkler. Winkler cracks Murometz with a right hand to the side of the head.

Murometz uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Winkler scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Murometz doesn't seem bothered though. Nice body punch from Winkler. Winkler throws a predictable looking body shot
and Murometz counters into the clinch. Nicely done. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Murometz escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Murometz bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Murometz is looking to take a break and control but Winkler is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Murometz is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Winkler will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Benny Winkler. I think Winkler has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
