The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Bart Greer and Santiago Holmes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Virtanen throws a head kick that misses.
Rowland misses with a takedown
and Virtanen counters by clinching up.
Rowland has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Rowland misses with a punch on the inside.
Virtanen jumps guard and drags Rowland to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Rowland trying to control the position from guard on top but Virtanen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Virtanen pulls Rowland in to control the position.
Virtanen has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Rowland has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Virtanen lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
Rowland controls Virtanen momentarily but Virtanen frees himself.

Virtanen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rowland swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Virtanen seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Rowland for as long as he can get away with.

Virtanen is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Rowland sees it coming and defends easily.
Virtanen seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Virtanen's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Virtanen closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Rowland did well to prevent Virtanen getting side control.
Virtanen uses his free foot to push down on Rowland's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Rowland.
Virtanen goes for an armbar but Rowland turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Rowland.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Virtanen is on top in guard.

Rowland parries the strikes from Virtanen easily there. Virtanen is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Rowland to escape.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Virtanen, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
