Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vicente Johnston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jurij Sakumov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jurij Sakumov has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vicente Johnston!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jurij Sakumov!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Wesley Smith and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Johnston moves into the clinch successfully.
Johnston can't find room to land a body shot as Sakumov controls the action.
Johnston working hard to break the clinch.
Johnston could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Johnston's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Sakumov looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Johnston feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Johnston stands and steps away. Sakumov gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Sakumov dives in for a single leg takedown but Johnston sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Johnston wants to break the clinch but can't.

Sakumov is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Johnston can't fight it off and eventually Sakumov manages to take the fight to the floor. Johnston looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Sakumov wants to control from the top but Johnston keeps moving.
Johnston might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Johnston wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Sakumov is now in half guard.
Johnston moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Sakumov wants to control from the top but Johnston keeps moving.
Johnston manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Sakumov manages to get himself to full guard.

Johnston wants to stand but Sakumov is controlling his posture from full guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Sakumov has his foot on Johnston's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Johnston works his way back into a safe position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Johnston has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Sakumov is proving hard to escape from.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Sakumov escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Johnston gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Johnston lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Johnston wants to get up but he can't break Sakumov's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Johnston postures up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Johnston shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Sakumov as he avoids it easily.
Sakumov shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Johnston sprawls well. Johnston wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Sakumov gets slowly back to his feet.
Vicente Johnston has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jurij Sakumov.

Johnston tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Sakumov counters with a series of strikes. Johnston will be more careful next time no doubt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Johnston has taken the fight to the clinch.
Johnston is trying to push Sakumov away but Sakumov has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Johnston keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Sakumov's efforts to push away.

Johnston wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Johnston has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Johnston is trying to push Sakumov away but Sakumov has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sakumov stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Johnston accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Johnston postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Vicente Johnston will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Sakumov throws a head kick but Johnston moves out of range.
Johnston displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Sakumov.

and Johnston counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Johnston.

Sakumov fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Vicente Johnston has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jurij Sakumov.

Johnston breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Johnston tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Sakumov gets caught flat footed, as Johnston shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Johnston is working Sakumov over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sakumov is on top in guard.

Sakumov must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Sakumov wants to control from the top but Johnston keeps moving.
Sakumov is breathing heavily.

Sakumov wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Johnston's closed guard. He's half up but Johnston has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Johnston pivots and extends the arm, Sakumov falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Johnston! Well done that man!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Vicente Johnston!
