PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Paul Kong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ron Tyson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kong comes to the cage accompanied by Evil Scotsman. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tyson shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Tyson shoots for a double leg takedown but Kong sprawls well. He's pushed Tyson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Kong pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Tyson wants to clinch.

Tyson has taken the fight to the clinch.
Kong tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Tyson just stands there and leans against the cage.
Kong is looking to break free of the clinch but Tyson has double underhooks.

Tyson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kong sprawls well initially but Tyson persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Tyson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Kong to the mat! Kong manages to get full guard.

Kong utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Tyson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kong swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Tyson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Tyson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Tyson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Tyson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kong works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

so Tyson counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Tyson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Tyson lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Tyson controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Tyson stands and steps away. Kong gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kong misses with a takedown attempt

and Tyson counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Tyson is pushing down on Kong's leg trying to pass to half guard. Kong is fighting to maintain full guard but Tyson has managed to sneak the leg through.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Tyson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Kong swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Tyson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kong is fending him off so far but Tyson persists. Nope, Kong circles away and we're back to standing.

and Kong holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Tyson has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Kong is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Tyson.

Tyson has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Kong to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Tyson is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Kong pulls down on the head and he's put Tyson to sleep! This one is all over!
