Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eric Patcherson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Theros Staal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Eric Patcherson looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Eric Patcherson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Theros Staal! The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Daniel Franklin and David Hoff.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Staal connects with a leg kick. Patcherson looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. Patcherson has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Island Fitness $50pw in the buildup to the fight. Patcherson digs a good hook to Staal's body.
Patcherson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Staal manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Patcherson closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Staal's guard. Patcherson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Staal works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Patcherson controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Patcherson postures up and lands a big shot to Staal's brow. Staal keeping moving, preventing Patcherson from controlling successfully. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Patcherson looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Staal lands a nice leg kick that just misses Patcherson's sensitive parts. Patcherson dives in and grabs Staal's left leg, looking for a takedown. Staal pushes down on Patcherson's head and hops out. Staal lands a big head kick that sends Patcherson tumbling to the mat! Staal takes a step backwards and waves Patcherson back to his feet - he wants the finish!
It looks like Eric Patcherson has been cut. Staal scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Staal buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Staal throws a head kick that misses. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Jab, jab by Staal - just one landing. Staal has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Patcherson shoots in for a takedown but Staal shows good takedown defense. Staal throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Patcherson counters with a single leg into guard. Staal didn't expect that. Patcherson is breathing heavily. Patcherson won't allow Staal to sweep him here. Staal keeping full guard, as Patcherson tries to pass. Staal should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Staal utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Patcherson connects with a couple of short punches. Patcherson postures up.
Patcherson decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Staal turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Staal throws an overhand right that drops Patcherson like a sack of potatoes! Staal dives in to finish the fight with more strikes and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:15 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Theros Staal!
