Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alexei Surov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rafael Santa Cruz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Surov comes to the cage accompanied by Amphetamines. Santa Cruz comes into a darkened arena with his song building. 50 cent P.I.M.P kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

21 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rafael Santa Cruz! The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Eddie Farnsworth and David Schapiro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Surov slips a jab from Santa Cruz. Santa Cruz scores with a nice head shot. Rafael Santa Cruz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Santa Cruz misses the body punch so Surov counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Santa Cruz preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Surov is working Santa Cruz over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Santa Cruz has his foot on Surov's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Surov works his way back into a safe position though. Surov distracts Santa Cruz with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Surov missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Surov pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Santa Cruz is keeping the position for now. Santa Cruz pulls Surov in close to prevent any damage. Surov has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Santa Cruz working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Surov.
That's one minute gone in the round. Surov looking to sit in guard and control but Santa Cruz gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Surov looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Santa Cruz passes easily into side control. Nice work. Santa Cruz is chipping away with strikes.
Santa Cruz trying to control the action but Surov is working from the bottom. Santa Cruz working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Surov dodges the ground and pound from Santa Cruz. Santa Cruz in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. Santa Cruz scores with a couple of short elbows. The strikes coming from Santa Cruz are missing the target in this wave of attacks. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Santa Cruz working his ground and pound in the gym. Surov is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Santa Cruz missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Santa Cruz is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Surov is just riding it out for now. Santa Cruz eventually gives up the hold. Surov looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Surov is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Gym Beam, so we'll see if he gets out of it.

Santa Cruz works his way back into a safe position though. Santa Cruz is looking to work some ground and pound but Surov has wrist control. Surov working for a triangle but Santa Cruz defends it easily.
Santa Cruz is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Surov has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Santa Cruz is looking to defend but Surov has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Santa Cruz! Surov pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Santa Cruz taps out and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Alexei Surov! Alexei Surov retains his welterweight title! Alexei Surov decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well. In defeat, Rafael Santa Cruz stepped up to the mic, saying 'That bullshit, I'm going to appeal that decision it sucks balls, fuck it!'.
