Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
18 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Christian Alkofer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Advice Mallard! The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Ben Hemmingworth and Hugh Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Alkofer throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Mallard tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Alkofer is in Mallard's guard. Mallard has his foot on Alkofer's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Alkofer works his way back into a safe position though. Mallard is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Mallard working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Alkofer has passed into half guard!
Mallard looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Alkofer lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Alkofer seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Mallard actively working from the bottom here. Alkofer is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ground and pound from Alkofer. Mallard is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Alkofer pulls his head out easily. Mallard looking for submissions off his back.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alkofer looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Alkofer has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Mallard is looking to improve his position.
Mallard actively working from the bottom here. Mallard is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Alkofer pulls his head out easily. Mallard looking for submissions off his back. Alkofer has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Mallard tries to hold on but Alkofer pushes him away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alkofer lands a big shot there that rocks Mallard but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Alkofer cracks Mallard with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Mallard slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Mallard looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Mallard gets back to full guard.
Alkofer throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Mallard works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Mallard is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Mallard working for a triangle but Alkofer defends it easily.
Alkofer tries to free his leg and advance position but Mallard is retaining full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mallard is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Alkofer got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mallard has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Alkofer has managed to get both his arms back between Mallard's legs - danger averted. Alkofer pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mallard is keeping the position for now. Alkofer might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Alkofer landing some decent shots from guard. Mallard has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Alkofer should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Mallard has tightened it up now! Alkofer should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
