Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcelo Mandoza! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vladimir Avilenkov ! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Alexandre Firmino and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mandoza with a poor takedown and Avilenkov counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Avilenkov throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Mandoza stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Mandoza shoots for a takedown but Avilenkov saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Avilenkov with a nice cross. Mandoza goes for a double leg but Avilenkov avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Avilenkov continues to drive forward. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Marcelo Mandoza. That's going to take a lot out of him. Avilenkov prevents Mandoza from breaking the clinch. Mandoza jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Avilenkov walks away with a smile on his face. Mandoza gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Mandoza fails with the takedown and Mandoza takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Avilenkov stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Avilenkov wants it to stay on the feet. Mandoza tries for a takedown but Avilenkov circles away easily and Avilenkov counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Avilenkov scores with a hook to the body. Mandoza takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mandoza misses with a takedown attempt - Avilenkov sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Avilenkov connects with a jab. Avilenkov getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Mandoza with a poor takedown and Avilenkov counters with a stiff right hand. Mandoza is breathing heavily. Avilenkov lands a nice looking body shot.
Mandoza moves forwards but Avilenkov connects with a nice, crisp jab. Mandoza changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Avilenkov tries to avoid it but Mandoza manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Avilenkov to the ground. Avilenkov escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Mandoza takes a jab right on the kisser.

Mandoza walks into a stiff left hand from Avilenkov . We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Mandoza steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Avilenkov . That one must have hurt. Mandoza is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Avilenkov lands a nice hook to Mandoza's body. Mandoza takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Avilenkov scores with a crisp jab that stopped Mandoza in his tracks. A cross from Avilenkov lands.

Mandoza shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Marcelo Mandoza seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Avilenkov bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Mandoza's head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Avilenkov connects with a body shot that sends Mandoza's belly button to the back. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Avilenkov ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Avilenkov darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Mandoza takes one to the chin there. Mandoza looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that. Good shot there by Avilenkov . Nice straight punches there by Avilenkov . You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Avilenkov . Mandoza misses with a takedown and Avilenkov connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Avilenkov lands the left hand. Mandoza goes for a double leg but Avilenkov avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Avilenkov continues to drive forward. Avilenkov lands a nice shot to the body. Avilenkov has Mandoza pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Mandoza manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Vladimir Avilenkov dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Avilenkov tightens his grip and picks Mandoza up, before dumping him to the ground. Mandoza manages to land in guard. Mandoza throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Avilenkov is looking to stand up but Mandoza won't let him. Mandoza looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Avilenkov doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Avilenkov manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Mandoza is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Mandoza is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Mandoza is looking for a triangle but Avilenkov pushes his legs off easily.
Avilenkov controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Mandoza had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Avilenkov defends it easily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Mandoza looking for a guillotine here but Avilenkov defends easily.

Vladimir Avilenkov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Mandoza's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
Mandoza takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Avilenkov wants to get up but he can't break Mandoza's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mandoza has his feet on Avilenkov 's thighs here. He's pushed Avilenkov off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Avilenkov screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
