PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Babak Dundee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Donovan Douglas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Douglas is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: "Assassins" by Insane Clown Posse. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Donovan Douglas!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Bruno Hogan and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dundee is looking to clinch but Douglas is avoiding it.

Dundee shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Dundee controlling the action here.
Dundee wants to control but Douglas is keeping him busy.
Douglas gets back to full guard.
Dundee could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Douglas is controlling Dundee's posture.
Douglas really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dundee. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Douglas wants to stand up but Dundee is controlling him.

Douglas is looking for a triangle but Dundee pushes his legs off easily.

Dundee tries to close the distance and clinch up but Douglas swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Dundee stands and steps away. Douglas gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Donovan Douglas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Douglas shoots in for a double leg but Dundee sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Dundee fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Douglas sprawls well initially but Dundee persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Dundee seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Dundee has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Still in half guard, Dundee seems content to control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Babak Dundee just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Dundee drives through with a takedown into guard.

Douglas escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Dundee gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Dundee stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Douglas swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Douglas is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Douglas breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Dundee clinches with his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Babak Dundee dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Dundee fails with the takedown.
Dundee tries for a takedown but Douglas circles away easily
and Douglas counters with a left to the body.

Douglas swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Douglas gets a clinch.
Douglas lands a right hand.
Douglas wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

enabling Douglas to counter with a crisp jab.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Dundee wants to control from the top but Douglas keeps moving.
Dundee thows a big elbow that misses.
Dundee trying to control the position from guard on top but Douglas is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Dundee counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Douglas is working an open guard so Dundee takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

and Dundee counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Dundee.
Dundee sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Douglas's guard.

Dundee is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Douglas wants to stand back up but Dundee manages to pass into side control.
Douglas tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Donovan Douglas has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Dundee, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
