PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between London Oswalt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Pogi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Oswalt comes to the cage accompanied by Country Boy can Survive. The crowd seem to be enjoying Pogi's choice of entrance music: Ice Ice baby. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, London Oswalt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Pogi!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Bruno Lombardi and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pogi moves in looking to clinch but Oswalt pushes him off.
Pogi tries to clinch there but Oswalt circles away.

Oswalt feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pogi looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Oswalt has picked Pogi up and slammed him! Pogi can't keep hold of the triangle and Oswalt manages to pass to side control!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Oswalt advances nicely into full mount.
Oswalt can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Pogi is looking to escape.

Pogi is trying to reverse the position but instead Oswalt has taken his back - oops!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Oswalt controls the action.
Oswalt struggling to keep hold of the position.

Pogi defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.

Oswalt controls the position.

The referee stands the fighters back up. London Oswalt just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Pogi moves in looking to clinch but Oswalt pushes him off.
Pogi is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Oswalt circles away from the clinch attempt.
The fight stays on the outside here - Oswalt looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Pogi darts in and clinches Oswalt up against the cage.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Pogi misses with an elbow over the top.
Pogi missing with knees to the body.
With the fighters up against the cage, Pogi throws an elbow but misses.
Pogi throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Oswalt can't get the takedown.
Oswalt has Pogi pushed against the cage.
Pogi lands a nice elbow from the clinch.

Oswalt decides to pull guard.
Oswalt is trying to keep Pogi in close.
Pogi throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Oswalt works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Pogi has gone for a leg lock! Oswalt slips out almost immediately though and dives into Pogi's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

London Oswalt dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

and Oswalt counters with a single leg into guard. Pogi didn't expect that.

Pogi is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Oswalt sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Pogi's guard.

Oswalt thows a huge punch but Pogi dodges it nicely.
Oswalt is looking to take a break and control but Pogi is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Pogi is breathing heavily.

Oswalt is working for a kimura but Pogi is defending it quite comfortably.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Oswalt content to control rather than advance.
Oswalt is looking to take a break and control but Pogi is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Oswalt working the head and body with strikes.
Oswalt seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Pogi is in trouble now - Oswalt has advanced to mount!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Oswalt lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Pogi hang on?

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

London Oswalt dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Pogi looks to clinch

and Oswalt counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Oswalt.
London Oswalt overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Oswalt stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Oswalt tries to clinch but Pogi is having none of it.

Pogi drives through and clinches with Oswalt against the cage.
Oswalt wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Pogi has him pressed against the cage.
Oswalt blocks an elbow strike.
Oswalt looking for a takedown.

Oswalt gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Oswalt passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Oswalt trying to control the action but Pogi is working from the bottom.
Pogi takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Oswalt working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Oswalt is staying tight to Pogi's torso, preventing him from escaping.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Oswalt is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Pogi is trying to escape and Oswalt transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Pogi is forced to tap! Nice work there by Oswalt! Very nice indeed!
