PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jerry Jordan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Abiodun Havilah (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jerry Jordan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Abiodun Havilah !
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Colin Fray and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Havilah avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Havilah defending well as Jordan loads up on a big left hand.
Jordan throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Havilah .

Excellent takedown into side control there by Jordan.
Havilah is not content to let Jordan control the position.
Havilah can't do much from the bottom here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jordan is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Havilah knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jordan stands up and beckons Havilah to his feet.

Havilah tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Jordan manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Jordan darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Havilah wants to get back to his feet.
Havilah has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Jordan is working away from the top position though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jordan throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Jordan is looking to advance position but Havilah won't allow it.
Jordan tries to stand and escape but Havilah is controlling the position.
Jordan thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Havilah 's head.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Jordan misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Havilah fails with a takedown attempt.
Jordan has a takedown stuffed.
Havilah tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Jordan manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
No joy there for Jordan, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Jordan keeps the fight on the outside.

Jordan shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Havilah is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Havilah is looking to escape.
Jordan is stalling here. Havilah is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Jordan seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Havilah has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Jordan is looking to regain half guard here but Havilah keeps moving and retains side control.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Havilah wants to stand up but Jordan is controlling the position.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Sloppy strikes from Jordan. Those never looked like landing.
Havilah stuffs the takedown.

Havilah moves into the clinch.
Jordan takes an elbow to the forehead.
Jordan lands a body punch.
Havilah looking to stall.

Havilah has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Jordan uses from the top position.

Jordan seems to be looking for submissions.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Jordan in particular looking to stall.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Jordan wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Havilah uses the opportunity to regain full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Havilah is looking to clinch but Jordan is avoiding it.

Havilah leaves Jordan with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Havilah tries to clinch but Jordan is having none of it.
Jordan fails with an attempt to clinch.
Jordan shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Havilah stops a takedown attempt from Jordan.
Jordan jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Havilah walks away with a smile on his face. Jordan gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Jordan tries to clinch but Havilah is having none of it.

Jordan throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Havilah was covering up waiting for the punch and Jordan finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Jordan wants to control from the top but Havilah keeps moving.
Jordan is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Havilah can do to turn this around?
Havilah looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jordan tries to stand but Havilah is controlling from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jerry Jordan will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Havilah is looking to control Jordan's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Havilah avoid being mounted?

Havilah is desperately trying to improve his position but Jordan has a good base and remains in mount.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Havilah bucks Jordan off and manages to get back to his feet!
Abiodun Havilah has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Havilah wants to clinch up but Jordan keeps it at a distance.
Jordan swats away the attempt to clinch by Havilah .
Jordan uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Havilah .
The fight stays on the outside here - Havilah looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Jordan fails with the takedown.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Jordan avoids a punch combination nicely.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jerry Jordan showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Jordan, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
