PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Pedro Reys (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcus Almeida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Pedro Reys!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcus Almeida!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Daniel Cesar and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Reys closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Almeida moves into full guard.

Almeida is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Reys is aware though and is defending well.

Almeida working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Reys doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Reys manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Almeida isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Reys stacks Almeida on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Reys!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Reys tries to close the distance and clinch up but Almeida swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Almeida shoots in and bounces Reys off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Almeida drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Almeida jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Reys looking to hit a scissor sweep but Almeida is one step ahead there.
Almeida stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Reys swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Almeida wants to free his trapped foot but Reys is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Reys wants to control but Almeida is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Almeida seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Reys does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Marcus Almeida showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! And we move into the final round!


Reys fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Almeida avoids it really well and circles away.

Almeida has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Almeida is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Reys is just riding it out for now. Almeida eventually gives up the hold.

Almeida in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Reys tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Almeida!
