PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jackie Chan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Veldrane Sengir (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Veldrane Sengir told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jackie Chan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 25 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Veldrane Sengir!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Cecil Peabody and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sengir misses with a takedown attempt

and Chan counters with a shoot takedown. Sengir fights it but they end up in guard.

Sengir looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Chan slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Sengir pulls Chan in close to prevent any damage.
Chan is stalling in the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sengir can't keep his opponent in guard - Chan advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Chan is thwarting Sengir's attempts to control the position.
Sengir manages to get to full guard.
Sengir wants to stand up but Chan is controlling him.
Chan trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Sengir keeping moving, preventing Chan from controlling successfully.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Chan closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Chan.
Chan wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Sengir goes for a takedown attempt but Chan pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Sengir throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Chan tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Sengir is in Chan's guard.

Chan wants to get back to his feet but Sengir is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Sengir trying to control the position from guard on top but Chan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Chan is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Sengir is controlling him.
Sengir trying to control but Chan is working from the bottom.
Sengir is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Sengir might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Chan haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Chan throws a right and a left that both miss.
Chan fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Sengir leaves Chan with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Chan shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sengir but Sengir pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jackie Chan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Chan swats away the attempt to clinch by Sengir.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jackie Chan will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Sengir darts in looking for a takedown but Chan gets double underhooks and turns Sengir into the cage.
Chan is trying to push Sengir away but Sengir has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Chan wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Sengir fails to pull guard.
Sengir can't get the takedown.
Jackie Chan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Veldrane Sengir.

Chan's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Chan fails to land with a series of punches.

Sengir shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chan pushes Sengir off looking to stand but Sengir dives back in and keeps control.

Chan makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Sengir avoids a punch combination nicely.
Sengir fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Chan scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Sengir wants to clinch.
Veldrane Sengir seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Some wild striking there from Chan.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Chan fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Sengir to the ground. Chan is now in Sengir's guard.
Sengir is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Chan throws a strike but Sengir rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Chan is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Sengir throws a big elbow that misses.
Sengir trying to control but Chan is working from the bottom.

Sengir postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Chan is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Sengir, into his guard.

Chan controlling from the top position.
Sengir wants to sweep but no luck.
Chan is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Sengir can do to turn this around?

Sengir scrambles and gets back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Chan tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sengir swivels and escapes.
Chan tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Sengir manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Sengir shoots in for a double leg but Chan sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Chan throws a one two combo.

Chan closes the distance and pushes Sengir back into the cage.

Sengir manages to pull guard.
Chan trying to control the position from guard on top but Sengir is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Chan controls from within his opponent's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jackie Chan dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Chan does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Chan throws a right hand that Sengir ducks under and follows up with a left that Sengir also avoids with ease.

Chan rushes Sengir and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Sengir is trying to pull guard but Chan turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Sengir has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Chan avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Chan is fighting off a takedown attempt but Sengir is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Chan to the mat. Chan regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Chan seems keen to control Sengir's posture.

Sengir wants to control from the top but Chan keeps moving.

Sengir stops Chan from standing up.

Sengir decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Chan, up you get!
Sengir tries to clinch up but Chan circles away and keeps his distance.
Jackie Chan is winning the standup battle so far.

Chan forces Sengir back against the cage and clinches.

Chan pulls Sengir into guard.
Chan keeping moving, preventing Sengir from controlling successfully.
Chan throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sengir stays in close to Chan's body and controls the position.

Chan has his foot on Sengir's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sengir works his way back into a safe position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sengir trying to control but Chan is working from the bottom.
Sengir controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Chan wants to sweep here but Sengir controlling him for the moment.

and Chan counters by clinching up.
Chan wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Sengir is trying to drag Chan to the mat but Chan just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Sengir is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Chan pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Veldrane Sengir has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Chan has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Sengir uses from the top position.

Jackie Chan showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Chan, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
