PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Nicky Hatfield (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shelldor Speed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Shelldor Speed was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Nicky Hatfield!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Shelldor Speed!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Daniel Bishop and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Speed changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hatfield tries to avoid it but Speed manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hatfield to the ground. Hatfield escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Hatfield throws a head kick that misses.
A head kick by Hatfield misses
and Speed counters with a nice body kick.
Hatfield lands a high kick!
Speed fails with an attempt to clinch.
Speed shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hatfield pinned against the cage. Hatfield gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Speed tries to close the distance and clinch but Hatfield swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Hatfield really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Speed wants to clinch.
Hatfield keeps the fight on the outside.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hatfield tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Horrible takedown attempt by Speed or perhaps it was just good defense by Hatfield, which made it look bad.
Nicky Hatfield has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shelldor Speed.
Speed looks winded!
Speed throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hatfield's waist but Hatfield gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Speed off to one side.

Speed stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Hatfield.
Speed takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Shelldor Speed seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Hatfield counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Hatfield.
Speed is trying to force a seperation but Hatfield has the dominant position.
Speed stops a takedown attempt from Hatfield.
Hatfield tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Speed just stands there and leans against the cage.
Hatfield drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Speed gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Hatfield changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Speed fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Hatfield gets a takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hatfield not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hatfield wants to take a breather but Speed is having none of it.
Hatfield moves into full mount! Speed won't be happy about that!
Speed is wriggling around trying to escape.

Hatfield throwing strikes here but Speed is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Hatfield scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Speed?
Speed tries to hold on but Hatfield postures up.
Speed is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Speed sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Hatfield slips a nice elbow through Speed's hands, connecting with Speed's forehead.
Hatfield throwing shots but Speed is blocking nicely.

Hatfield throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Speed blocking the ground and pound attempt from Hatfield.
Speed tries to get to full guard but Hatfield has control of the leg.
Hatfield missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Hatfield not landing any meaningful shots this time.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hatfield thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Hatfield throws a head kick but Speed moves out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hatfield bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Speed's head.
Speed takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Speed darts in looking for a takedown but Hatfield gets double underhooks and turns Speed into the cage.
Speed has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Speed jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Hatfield walks away with a smile on his face. Speed gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Speed has closed the distance and engaged Hatfield in a clinch.

Speed jumps guard but Hatfield turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Hatfield pulls guard effortlessly.

Hatfield escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Speed gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Speed controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Speed stands and steps away. Hatfield gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Speed goes for a double leg but Hatfield avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Hatfield continues to drive forward.
Speed wants a takedown but no success here.
Hatfield has Speed pressed against the cage.
Hatfield fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Hatfield tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Speed just stands there and leans against the cage.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Hatfield tries to pull guard but Speed holds him up against the cage and eventually Hatfield drops back down to his feet.

Speed wants to stall.

Speed needs to keep his hands up - Hatfield had a free shot at his head there.

Hatfield clobbers Speed with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Hatfield connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Speed's hands.
Speed fails with an attempt to clinch.
Hatfield scores with a jab. Speed acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Speed shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Hatfield misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Speed stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Speed wants it to stay on the feet.

Nice takedown defense from Hatfield. No joy for Speed on that attempt.

Hatfield has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Speed uses from the top position.
Speed stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hatfield swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Speed postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hatfield is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Speed, into his guard.

Hatfield got a little sloppy there for a moment and Speed has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hatfield has managed to get both his arms back between Speed's legs - danger averted.

Shelldor Speed has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Hatfield wants to pass the guard but Speed is keeping the position.
Hatfield with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Speed throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Speed is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Nicky Hatfield is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Speed tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Hatfield manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Well Hatfield has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
