Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Antonio Pettis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alistair Garcia! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Mauricio Rocha and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Garcia swings widly with a right hand
and Pettis counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Pettis lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Garcia darts in looking for a takedown but Pettis gets double underhooks and turns Garcia into the cage. Pettis wants to break free but Garcia has control.
Garcia is trying to pull guard but Pettis turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Garcia breaks the clinch.
Pettis ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Garcia misses with a hook
and Pettis counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Pettis scores with a jab to the body. A head kick by Garcia misses and Pettis counters with a left and a right that stings Garcia. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Pettis stuffs the takedown attempt from Garcia. Garcia gets slowly back to his feet. Antonio Pettis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alistair Garcia. Garcia misses with a hook. Pettis ducked under it nicely. Garcia takes a swing at Pettis's ribcage but misses. Pettis cracks Garcia with an open hand slap. Pettis misses with a two punch combination.
That's one minute gone in the round. Garcia throws a poor cross that misses
and Pettis counters with a series of strikes. Garcia will be more careful next time no doubt. Garcia shoots and misses and Pettis counters with a left to the body. Garcia looks winded! Pettis drops Garcia with a beautiful combination! Garcia stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Pettis is looking for the KO!
Garcia is rocked! A jab from Pettis finds it's way through Garcia's defenses. Garcia is still on wobbly legs! Can Pettis finish him? Pettis looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Today's fight clock is brought to you by... OOOH that's a huge shot by Pettis! Garcia is in big trouble here - the ref steps in to save him and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:25 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Antonio Pettis!
