Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cain Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ed Nesi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Velasquez's entrance music is UFC - Face the Pain. A fine choice. Nesi has chosen Van Canto - Battery as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
25 - 14 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Cain Velasquez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 11 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ed Nesi! The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Valeri Chadov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Velasquez takes one to the side of the head.
Nice takedown defense from Nesi. No joy for Velasquez on that attempt. Nesi stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Nesi wants it to stay on the feet. A big right from Nesi misses. Nesi tries to clinch but Velasquez moves out of range. Nesi instigates a clinch. Nesi displaying some good clinch control by pressing Velasquez up against the cage. Velasquez tries to score a body lock takedown but Nesi shows good agility there to stay on his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cain Velasquez. Velasquez has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Velasquez there as he acknowledges the shot. Ed Nesi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. The fighters circle momentarily. Nesi darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Nesi paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Nesi has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Velasquez with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Nesi to score with a decent uppercut. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nesi looks to score with a jab to the body but Velasquez is just out of range. Velasquez circles away from the clinch attempt and Velasquez moves into the clinch.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Nesi takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life. Good anti-grappling being displayed by Velasquez as Nesi tries to tie him up. Velasquez manages to pull guard.

Nesi would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Velasquez wants to stand but Nesi is controlling the position. Nesi trying to control the position from guard on top but Velasquez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Nesi sitting in guard here, content to control.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Ed Nesi is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Nesi jabs Velasquez to the body, keeping him at a distance.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Velasquez takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Nesi jabbing away but nothing is landing. Velasquez uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Nesi. Nesi with a hook. Velasquez closes the distance and clinches up with Nesi, looking for a takedown. Velasquez pushes Nesi against the cage but Nesi circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Velasquez shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Nesi as he avoids it easily. Velasquez shoots in looking for a takedown but Nesi manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Velasquez's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Nesi uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Velasquez has time to react. Nesi scores with the left hand. Velasquez knows he should have avoided that one. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ed Nesi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Cain Velasquez's cut. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!
