PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Takeda Shingen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Felipe Garcio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Garcio has chosen Strange Behaviour as his entrance music. Takeda Shingen is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Takeda Shingen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Felipe Garcio!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Shirou Masuda and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shingen gets in close and instigates a clinch.
A short uppercut from Shingen.
Shingen is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Garcio to keep the fight standing.

Shingen has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Garcio clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Garcio wriggles onto his back under a barage of strikes.
Shingen throwing strikes but Garcio recovers to half guard. A much better position.
Garcio looks like he's trying to stand up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shingen passes the guard and advances to mount!
Shingen looking to control but Garcio is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Shingen misses with a head shot.
Shingen throwing strikes here but Garcio is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Garcio tries to hold on but Shingen pushes him away.
Garcio is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Garcio tries to lock up and control but Shingen gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Shingen throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Shingen wants to control the pace but Garcio is squirming around nicely.
Garcio suckers Shingen into throwing a sloppy strike and uses the momentum to reverse the position beautifully! Garcio is now in Shingen's guard!
Shingen could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Garcio drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Shingen manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Garcio has Shingen in his guard.

Shingen throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Garcio works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Garcio is pulling down on Shingen's head to control his posture.
Shingen wants to stand and escape but instead Garcio has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.


Garcio stands and steps away. Shingen gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Shingen pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Shingen gets tackled into the cage by Garcio. Garcio maintains the clinch.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Shingen fails to pull the fight into his guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Garcio jumps guard but Shingen turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Garcio tries for a takedown. No joy.
Garcio tries to break free but Shingen pushes him back against the cage.

Shingen breaks from the clinch.
Garcio keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Takeda Shingen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Shingen tries to close the distance and clinch but Garcio swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Takeda Shingen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Shingen looks to land a combination but Garcio avoids it well.
Garcio keeps the fight on the outside.
Garcio avoids the head kick by Shingen.
Shingen tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
The fight stays on the outside here - Shingen looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Garcio keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Shingen is breathing heavily.

Shingen is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Garcio takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Garcio shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Shingen but Shingen pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Shingen misses with a takedown
and Garcio counters with a nice body kick.
Garcio stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Garcio wants it to stay on the feet.
Shingen tries to clinch up but Garcio circles away and keeps his distance.
Shingen stuffs the takedown attempt from Garcio. Garcio gets slowly back to his feet.
Shingen tries to clinch but Garcio is having none of it.
Garcio shoots in for a double leg but Shingen sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Takeda Shingen dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Shingen forces Garcio back against the cage and clinches.
Garcio fails to pull guard.

Garcio wants the takedown. Shingen is fighting it off but Garcio persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Shingen's guard against the cage.
Shingen has a closed guard, preventing Garcio from standing up.
Shingen controlling Garcio's posture.
Takeda Shingen overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Garcio wants to control from the top but Shingen keeps moving.
Shingen is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Garcio can do to turn this around?
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shingen has his hands on Garcio's head, controlling the position.

Garcio drops back looking for a leg! Shingen is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Shingen manages to kick Garcio off! Garcio jumps back into Shingen's guard.

Shingen is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Garcio is trying to control but can't.
Shingen stops Garcio from getting back to his feet.
Garcio regains full guard. Nicely done.
Shingen's corner is telling him to maintain position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Garcio looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Shingen gets to his feet. Garcio looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Garcio shoots in looking for a takedown. Shingen tries to sprawl out of it but Garcio keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Shingen manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Shingen defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Garcio.
Takeda Shingen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Felipe Garcio.
Garcio is breathing heavily.

Shingen has closed the distance and engaged Garcio in a clinch.
Shingen landing some nice looking knees to the body.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Shingen prevents a takedown attempt there.
Shingen crunches a lovely knee into Garcio's ribcage.

Shingen ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Shingen no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Shingen is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Garcio is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Garcio would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Shingen looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Garcio prevents Shingen from getting back to his feet.
Garcio wants to control from the top but Shingen keeps moving.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Shingen tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Shingen fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Garcio tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Shingen paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Shingen closes the distance and clinches.
Garcio is looking to break free of the clinch but Shingen has double underhooks.
Shingen's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Takeda Shingen dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Garcio misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Shingen throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Shingen has taken the fight to the clinch.

Shingen breaks the clinch.
Shingen goes for a double leg but Garcio avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Garcio continues to drive forward.

Shingen pulls guard.

Garcio is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Shingen keeping moving, preventing Garcio from controlling successfully.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Shingen keeping full guard, as Garcio tries to pass.
Garcio advances to half guard.

Garcio looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Shingen is trying to stand up here but Garcio is controlling him well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Shingen is staying active underneath Garcio, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Shingen has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Garcio is working away from the top position though.

Garcio in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Shingen tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Garcio!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:40 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Felipe Garcio!
Felipe Garcio seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
