The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Akyama dives in and scores a takedown into Lowler's guard.
Lowler throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Akyama distracts Lowler with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Lowler really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Akyama. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Lowler tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Akyama has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Lowler had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Akyama defends it easily.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
