Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 1, fighting out of New York, Boyd McGuire!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 2 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Burley Haines!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Eddie Farnsworth and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McGuire tries to clinch there but Haines circles away.
McGuire thuds a left hand into Haines's body.
Haines shoots in but no luck this time.
Haines tried to score with a low kick but McGuire checks it.
Nice defenses there by McGuire.
McGuire appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
McGuire is looking to clinch.
Haines drops down looking to force a counter takedown but McGuire defends it well.
McGuire sizes up Haines with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
McGuire throws a body kick that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Haines fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging McGuire to the ground. Haines is now in McGuire's guard.
Haines wants to control from the top but McGuire keeps moving.
Haines is looking to work some ground and pound but McGuire has wrist control.

McGuire trying to control the position here.
Haines trying to control but McGuire is working from the bottom.
McGuire looking to hit a scissor sweep but Haines is one step ahead there.
McGuire keeping moving, preventing Haines from controlling successfully.
Haines works a leg free and moves into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Haines looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Haines is trying to control. McGuire wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
McGuire wants to improve his position but Haines is controlling well.

Haines is working for a kimura but McGuire is defending it quite comfortably.
Haines works his foot free and advances to mount.
Haines scores with a couple of good head shots there.
My spies in 11th Planet MMA inform me that Haines has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Haines lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
McGuire gets back to half guard.
Haines wants to take a breather but McGuire is having none of it.
Haines trying to control from McGuire's half guard. McGuire has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
McGuire trying to keep a closed guard but Haines is proving a slippery customer.

McGuire looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Haines has picked McGuire up and slammed him! McGuire can't keep hold of the triangle and Haines manages to pass to side control!

Haines is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. McGuire looks calm but he's in trouble here. Haines gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. McGuire is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Haines lets go of the hold and McGuire can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Burley Haines!
Burley Haines was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
