26 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Andy Wilkins! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
15 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tarik Gibson! The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Ben Hemmingworth and Chris Dean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wilkins defending well as Gibson loads up on a big left hand. Wilkins tests Gibson's chin there with a solid looking shot. Wilkins fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Gibson on the side of the head. Gibson feints and then cracks Wilkins's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Wilkins down. Gibson tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Gibson throws a front kick aimed at Wilkins's knee but Wilkins avoids it well. Gibson misses with a looping left. Gibson throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Wilkins attempts a counter takedown but Gibson avoids it well and moves away. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Wilkins misses with a double jab
and Gibson counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. We've been informed that Gibson has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. Gibson throws a nice outside leg kick.
