Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Lil Jon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lil Jon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Matt Hughes!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Bruno Lombardi and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jon looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Hughes is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Jon is aware though and is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hughes keeping full guard, as Jon tries to pass.

Jon trying to control but Hughes is working from the bottom.
Jon content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jon drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Jon jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Jon throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Hughes works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
We've been hearing that Jon has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Hughes is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Jon working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Hughes escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jon gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Jon has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Hughes has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jon can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Hughes controls Jon momentarily but Jon frees himself.
Jon pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hughes is keeping the position for now.

Hughes looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Hughes keeping moving, preventing Jon from controlling successfully.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Jon thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jon makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Jon with a flurry of punches that miss.
Jon trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Jon throws a big right hand that misses.
Hughes keeping moving, preventing Jon from controlling successfully.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Nice straight punches there by Hughes. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Hughes.
Hughes throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Jon appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Jon shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Hughes defends it nicely.
Hughes looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Hughes misses with a two punch combination.
Hughes stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hughes fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Hughes misses with a body kick.
Left hook, right uppercut from Hughes.
Jon takes one to the chin there.
Hughes throws a right and a left that both miss.
Jon uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Hughes.
Hughes throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Hughes thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Jon if he has to take too many more of those.
Jon takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Nice takedown defense from Hughes. No joy for Jon on that attempt.
Hughes lands a slapping body shot.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Hughes, as that shot connected.
Jon shoots in for a takedown but Hughes shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lil Jon. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hughes misses with a head kick.
Hughes staying out of range there.
Jon pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hughes tries a head kick but it misses.
Hughes throws a head kick that half lands.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Jon.
Jon scores with a jab. Hughes acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Hughes swinging wildly here.
Matt Hughes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hughes leaves Jon with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Hughes throws a head kick that half lands.
Hughes is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Jon gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Hughes.
Jon shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Hughes connects with a high kick.
Hughes cracks Jon with a right hand to the side of the head.
Hughes throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Jon shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Hughes as he avoids it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matt Hughes dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Hughes lands a nice looking body kick.
Jon on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Jon shoots in and gets a takedown into Hughes's guard.
Hughes wants to hit a switch here but Jon passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Hughes there!
Hughes has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Jon trying to control but Hughes is having none of it.
Hughes holds on to Jon around his waist, trying desperately to prevent any attacks.

Jon has control of Hughes's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Hughes regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Jon is landing with some decent strikes but Hughes is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Jon fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Lil Jon overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Hughes tries to hold on but Jon postures up.
Jon postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Hughes looks a forlorn figure.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Jon cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Hughes is wriggling around trying to escape.

Hughes tries to improve his position but Jon has taken his back! Jon has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Hughes tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Jon pushes Hughes away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:18 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Lil Jon!
