The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A left lands for Dawson.
Skantze Jr stalks Dawson and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Dawson's face. Dawson staggers backwards, shaken.
Dawson throws out a loose jab but Skantze Jr uses good head movement to avoid it.
Dawson tries a head kick but it misses.
Skantze Jr checks the leg kick.
Skantze Jr digs a good hook to Dawson's body.
Skantze Jr stuns Dawson with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Dawson is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Skantze Jr.

enabling Skantze Jr to counter with a crisp jab.
Dawson lands a head kick. Skantze Jr smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Dawson is looking to counter the offense by Skantze Jr and move into the clinch.
Skantze Jr goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Dawson walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

Dawson misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Skantze Jr avoids the body shot from Dawson.
Dawson throws a lazy head kick
and Skantze Jr counters with a series of strikes. Dawson will be more careful next time no doubt.

Dawson throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Skantze Jr uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Skantze Jr rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Dawson moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

A head kick lands from Dawson that sends Skantze Jr to the canvas. Skantze Jr tries to scramble back to his feet but Dawson brings him back down into side control.

It looks like John Skantze Jr has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Skantze Jr is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Dawson's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Dawson wants to stand up but Skantze Jr has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Dawson wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Skantze Jr uses the opportunity to regain full guard.

Skantze Jr has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Dawson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
