Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tenko Shinata!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Sosuke Kotani and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ortiz darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Shinata is looking to improve his position.

Shinata seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Shinata is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
We've been informed that Shinata has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Shinata is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Ortiz pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Ortiz rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Shinata moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Ortiz feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ortiz accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Shinata slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
