PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Harvey Dent (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Masahiko Kimura (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dent's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, tim finnegans. Harvey Dent has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Harvey Dent!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Masahiko Kimura!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Robert Douchet and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dent lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Kimura backs up against the cage.


It looks like Masahiko Kimura has been cut.
Dent throws a series of punches but Kimura moves out of range.
Dent swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Kimura.
Dent throws a right and a left that Kimura avoids nicely.
Dent fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Kimura looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Dent shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Dent was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kimura can't do much from the bottom here.

Dent decides to stand up, so the ref orders Kimura to his feet.
Kimura shoots in looking for a takedown but Dent manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Kimura's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

A punch combination from Dent misses.
Kimura fails with the takedown.
Kimura tries for a takedown. No joy.
Harvey Dent has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Masahiko Kimura.
Dent will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Kimura up against the cage.

Dent breaks from the clinch.

Dent moves into the clinch.
Kimura is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Dent gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Kimura wants to take the fight to the mat but Dent manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Kimura tries to pull guard but Dent forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Dent prevents a takedown attempt there.
Kimura tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Kimura is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Dent to keep the fight standing.
Kimura is working for takedown but Dent is calmly controlling the position for now.
Kimura wants a takedown.

Dent breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Dent throws a right and a left that Kimura avoids nicely.

Oooooh!!! Dent has knocked Kimura down with a huge combo! Dent steps away and waves a wobbly Kimura back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Dent tries to work over Kimura's front leg with a kick but Kimura checks it.
Dent throws a one two combo.

Dent feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Kimura not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Kimura is controlling Dent's posture.
Kimura looking for a sweep. Not yet Kimura, not yet.
Kimura is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Dent tries to stand but Kimura is controlling from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kimura is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Dent is aware though and is defending well.

Kimura wants to sweep but no luck.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Kimura working a defensive guard but Dent passes into half guard.
Kimura wants to get back to full guard.

Dent stands up and beckons Kimura to join him on the feet.
Dent throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Dent misses with a series of wild punches.

Kimura gets a takedown into half guard.
Kimura tries to pass to full mount but Dent defends it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Kimura tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Dent swivels and escapes.
Kimura shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Dent but Dent pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Dent is looking to counter with head kicks.
Dent throws a leg kick

and Kimura counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Dent!
Dent is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kimura can do to turn this around?

Kimura thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Dent is looking to regain half guard here but Kimura keeps moving and retains side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kimura trying to control the position but Dent is working away.
We've been informed that Kimura has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Kimura is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Dent knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Kimura has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Dent slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Kimura prevents Dent from standing back up.

Kimura looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Kimura wants to lay and pray for a moment but Dent keeps working.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Masahiko Kimura has got the better of the ground game so far.

Kimura seems to be working for a kimura but Dent defends the submission attempt.
Kimura working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Dent's thigh. Dent counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Kimura looking to sit in guard and control but Dent gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Kimura not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Kimura wants to control but Dent passes easily into half guard.
Kimura is looking to improve his position.
Dent wants to stand up but Kimura has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Kimura is looking to improve his position.

Dent stands up out of the half guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Dent feints a jab promting Kimura to slip. Dent then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Kimura slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Dent misses with a wild combination.
Kimura doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Kimura dodges the punch combination from Dent.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Dent throws a right and a left that both miss.

Dent shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Dent was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Masahiko Kimura's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Kimura on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Dent looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Kimura is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Dent drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Dent wants to stand but Kimura is controlling his posture from full guard.

Kimura looking to hit a scissor sweep but Dent is one step ahead there.

Kimura might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Dent haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Kimura bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Dent's guard.

Kimura tries to free his leg and advance position but Dent is retaining full guard.
Dent has his hands on Kimura's head, controlling the position.
Kimura pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Dent is keeping the position for now.

Kimura keeps trying to improve his position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Dent will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Kimura fails with a takedown attempt.
Dent tries to counter with a takedown but Kimura is quick to defend against it.

and Dent counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Dent.

Kimura is trying to drag Dent to the mat but Dent just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Harvey Dent has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Masahiko Kimura.
Kimura has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Dent is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Dent escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Dent darts in and clinches Kimura up against the cage.

Harvey Dent is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Harvey Dent showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Dent has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
