Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Oliver Stanton! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Pedro Gonzalez! The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Viktor Lagutenko and Konstantin Menshow.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A telegraphed takedown attempt from Stanton is defended easily by Gonzalez. Gonzalez closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Gonzalez landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Stanton regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Gonzalez. Stanton looking for a sweep. Not yet Stanton, not yet. Gonzalez postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Gonzalez throws a strike but Stanton rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gonzalez is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Stanton is controlling him. Stanton stands up over Gonzalez, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stanton prevents Gonzalez from getting back to his feet. Stanton with a nice head shot there. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Stanton with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Gonzalez wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Stanton manages to pass to side control. Gonzalez pushes Stanton off but Stanton dives into side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Stanton is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Gonzalez is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Stanton creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Gonzalez sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Gonzalez takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Gonzalez is looking to get back to his feet here but Stanton is keeping cool and he's managed to take Gonzalez's back.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Stanton lands a shot to the body. Gonzalez trying to get back to his feet but Stanton is in full control for now. Stanton is working the back position looking for the choke. Oh, he's slid into an armbar! Beautiful transition and Gonzalez taps out! Fantastic Jiu Jitsu from Stanton.
