The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brooks looks to throw the jab but Kidd is out of range.

Brooks shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Kidd is pulling down on Brooks's head to control his posture.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brooks tries to free his leg and advance position but Kidd is retaining full guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kidd slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Brooks's coaches at Foot Loves have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.

Brooks is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Kidd pulls his head out easily.

Kidd really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Brooks. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Brooks manages to get to full guard.

Brooks is looking for a triangle but Kidd pushes his legs off easily.
Brooks is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Kidd wants to control but Brooks is keeping busy and won't allow it.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kidd can do anything to dispel that myth.

Brooks is working for a submission of some sort.
Kidd pushes Brooks off looking to stand but Brooks dives back in and keeps control.

Brooks is looking for a kimura here.
Brooks is trying to control the action in half guard but Kidd is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Kidd is striking from the bottom but he's now found himself mounted! Oh dear - not enough focus on defense there.
Kidd tries to hold on but Brooks postures up.

Brooks looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Kidd working to try and regain half guard.
Brooks avoids the attempt from Kidd to control.
Kidd really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Kidd defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Brooks.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Kidd shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Brooks napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Calvin Brooks overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Kidd perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Brooks actively working from the bottom here.

Brooks has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Kidd. Oh but Brooks has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Kidd goes limp - he's gone! Brooks jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
