PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Pale Monster (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ken Masters (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Monster comes into the arena with Therapy blaring out of the sound system. Masters has chosen Simply the Best as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Pale Monster!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 1, fighting out of London, Ken Masters !
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Andrew Berry and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Masters misses with a kick to the body.
Monster was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Masters has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Monster is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Masters avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Monster throws a right and a left that Masters avoids nicely.
Masters goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Masters throws a front kick aimed at Monster's knee but Monster avoids it well.
Monster tries to close the distance and clinch but Masters swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
We've been hearing reports that Monster has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Danga de danga de dang - Masters scores with a four punch combination!
A punch lands to the side of Monster 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Monster throws a body punch but Masters moves out of range.
Monster fails with a takedown attempt.
And Masters responds with a good body kick, but Monster manages to step out the way in time.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Masters throws an overhand right that lands on Monster's shoulder, as Monster tries to avoid the shot.

Monster will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Masters is looking for the big counter here.
Masters attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Monster takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Masters scores with a kick to the midsection.
Monster fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Monster swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Masters counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
A looping hook to the body misses from Monster. Masters does a little dance to reset his feet.
Masters fakes the leg kick and cracks Monster in the body.
Masters throws out a leg kick but Monster moves out of range and Masters only half commits.
It looked like Monster was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Masters .
Masters lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Masters throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Monster appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

Masters misses with a hook

and Monster counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Masters !
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Monster works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Monster is looking to take a break and control but Masters is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Monster cracks Masters with a big elbow.
Monster throws a strike aimed at the side of Masters 's head but Masters avoids it well.
Monster wants to control but Masters is keeping him busy.
Masters parries the strikes from Monster easily there. Monster is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Masters to escape.

Masters looks to move to half guard but instead Monster has passed into mount! Damn!
Monster throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Monster breaks from Masters 's wrist control and lands an elbow.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Masters can do anything to dispel that myth.

Monster with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Monster trying to control but Masters is having none of it.

Masters really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Monster throwing strikes here but Masters is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Monster throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Masters is bucking up trying to escape but Monster cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Monster in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Monster controlling the pace for now.
Monster can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Masters is looking to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Pale Monster will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Masters lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Monster moves out of range as Masters throws a body kick.
Monster will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Masters ! But no joy.
Masters misses the jab.
Monster moves out of range of the body kick from Masters .
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
The fight stays on the outside here - Monster looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Masters is looking to land body kicks.
It looked like Monster was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Masters .

Masters connects with a leg kick. Monster looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

Masters with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

Masters keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
And Masters responds with a good body kick, but Monster manages to step out the way in time.
Masters throws a head kick but Monster moves out of range.
Ken Masters is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Monster tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Masters defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Monster.
Masters tries to land a front kick but Monster steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Monster tries for a takedown but Masters sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Masters was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
This has been an exciting period of action!

and Monster counters with a straight right hand.

Monster misses with a hook. Masters ducked under it nicely.
Masters throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Ken Masters seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Masters tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Masters cracks the inside of Monster's front leg.
Masters smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

Masters circles away from the clinch attempt
and Masters counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Monster moves in looking to clinch but Masters pushes him off.
Monster avoids the body shot from Masters .
Masters looks to throw a body kick

and Monster counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Masters !

Monster is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Masters is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Monster trying to control the action but Masters is working from the bottom.

Masters is not content to let Monster control the position.
Masters tries to bench press Monster off him but Monster keeps the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ken Masters showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Pale Monster's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Monster fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Masters manages to avoid it.

Masters has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

A little feinted left hand from Monster on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

and Masters counters with an outside leg kick.
Masters tries to work over Monster's front leg with a kick but Monster checks it.
Monster is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.

Monster shoots in looking for a takedown. Masters tries to sprawl out of it but Monster keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Masters manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
A clash of legs there as Monster blocks the low kick.

Masters fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Monster has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Masters lands a nice looking kick to the body. Monster takes a step back to recover.

Masters lands with a thumping leg kick.
Masters throws a hook but Monster blocks it.
Monster appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Monster throws a body punch but Masters moves out of range.
Monster tries to clinch there but Masters circles away.
Monster lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Monster shoots for a double leg takedown but Masters sprawls well. He's pushed Monster's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Masters throws a sloppy head kick and Monster moves out of range easily.
Monster uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Masters .
A bone on bone clash there as Monster blocks the leg kick.
Monster throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Masters sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Masters leaves Monster with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pale Monster. That's going to take a lot out of him.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Masters throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Masters , right into the meat.
Monster moves out of range as Masters throws a body kick.
Monster tries to clinch
and Masters counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Masters feints and then cracks Monster's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Monster down.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Masters .

Monster fails with a takedown attempt.

Masters breaks the clinch.
Monster fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Masters manages to avoid it.
Monster throws the left hand but Masters avoids the punch easily.
Masters finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Masters misses with a head kick.

Monster scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Monster wants to lay and pray for a moment but Masters keeps working.
Monster is trying to ground and pound but Masters uses the momentary lack of control by Monster to regain half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Masters wants to control but Monster is keeping busy.
Monster throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Masters to regain full guard.
Monster controls from within his opponent's guard.
Monster loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Masters wants to sweep but no luck.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ken Masters comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Masters has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
