Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Edmund Becker! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Larry Spizer! The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Jeff Smith and Ryoma Takatsuka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Becker gets caught napping as Spizer dives in and scores a takedown. Becker manages to retain guard. Becker keeping moving, preventing Spizer from controlling successfully. Becker will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Becker looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Becker is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Spizer preventing the sweep. Becker is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Spizer taking some punishment here, with Becker in his half guard. Spizer trying to control from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Spizer is holding on to half guard well. Spizer looking for subs from the bottom but Becker mounts him! Spizer tries to hold on but Becker pushes him away. Becker lands with some strikes. Becker throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage. Becker takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Becker blocks Spizer's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Spizer can do anything to dispel that myth. Becker thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Becker working away from the top, dropping strikes. Spizer really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Becker. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Spizer tries to lock up and control but Becker gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Spizer defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Becker. Becker working away from the top, dropping strikes. Spizer is trying to escape the mount but Becker keeps good control and instead manages to take Spizer's back.
Spizer is really stuck here.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Becker gets his hands free as Spizer looks to control. Becker lands strikes to the head. Spizer trying to control the action but Becker just sinks the hooks in. Good control from Becker. Becker connects with a big shot to the side of Spizer's head.
Becker is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Spizer defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined. Spizer wants to escape the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Becker is looking to finish with some ground and pound! Becker tightening his grip on Spizer, looking for the choke. Becker trying to control momentarily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Spizer defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Becker's arms. Spizer tries to escape but Becker has the hooks in and won't let him break free. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Edmund Becker dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Spizer shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Becker napping and manages to drive through into side control! Spizer swings around for an armbar but Becker sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Spizer's guard. Becker slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Spizer. Becker is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Spizer can do to turn this around? Spizer tries to get to full guard but Becker has control of the leg. Becker looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Spizer with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Becker thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Spizer's head. Edmund Becker overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Spizer tries to roll over but Becker keeps him under control. Spizer is trying is best to control the position here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Becker throwing shots but Spizer is blocking nicely. Spizer is looking to improve his position.
Becker has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Spizer has hold of Becker's hands but Becker slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Spizer throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Becker throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Becker connects with a nice short shot to Spizer's temple. Becker is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Spizer doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Becker. Becker working Spizer over with strikes.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Becker slips a nice elbow through Spizer's hands, connecting with Spizer's forehead. Spizer trying to control from the bottom.
Spizer is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Becker pulls his head out easily. Becker looks to score some points with some ground and pound. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Becker is nestled in close to Spizer, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Becker wants to stand but Spizer has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Becker takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Edmund Becker is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Spizer clinches up with Becker and pushes him back against the cage. Spizer prevents a takedown attempt there.
Becker using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Spizer has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Becker breaks from the clinch.
Spizer closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Becker to the mat! Becker manages to get full guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Spizer trying to control but Becker is working from the bottom. Becker looking to control.
Spizer is working Becker over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Spizer stands up over Becker, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Spizer scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Spizer scoring with some ground and pound. Spizer postures up and lands a big shot to Becker's brow.
Becker is rocked! Spizer postures up, still in guard. A huge hammer fist lands that bounces Becker's head off the mat! Becker is out! He's out! Spizer jumps to his feet and celebrates with his corner!
