Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alfonzo Cotton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Adam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alfonzo Cotton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mark Adam!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Illya Tyunina and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Adam drives through with a takedown into Cotton's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Cotton has his hands on Adam's head, controlling the position.
Cotton keeping moving, preventing Adam from controlling successfully.

Adam drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Adam jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Adam wants to get up but he can't break Cotton's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Adam is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Adam drops back, looking for a kneebar! Cotton looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Cotton looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Cotton!

Adam tries to buck Cotton off but Cotton is having none of it.

Adam is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Cotton asserts his dominance and retains side control.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Adam decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Adam tries to stand and escape but Cotton actually recovers to full guard.

Adam has gone for a leg lock! Cotton slips out almost immediately though and dives into Adam's guard.

Cotton might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Adam wants to stand up but Cotton is controlling him.
Adam has momentary wrist control but Cotton slips an elbow through the middle.

The ground and pound from Cotton seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Adam is trying to control Cotton's posture but Cotton avoids it.
Cotton knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Adam on the ground.

Adam takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

That was a close round but I would say that Alfonzo Cotton will probably get the nod.

Adam shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Cotton is trying to defend but Adam finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Cotton has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Adam working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cotton doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cotton manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Adam has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Mark Adam showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Cotton is defended easily by Adam.

Adam moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Cotton has worked his arm free - good work by Cotton!

Adam thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Well Adam has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
