Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Derick Rose (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Franz Grave (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Derick Rose!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Franz Grave!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Paul Gruel and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rose is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Grave's half guard.

Rose is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Grave is just riding it out for now. Rose eventually gives up the hold.
Grave trying to control but Rose postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Rose in particular looking to stall.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rose seems to be working for a kimura but Grave defends the submission attempt.

Rose is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Grave is staying active underneath Rose, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Grave is looking for a sweep. Rose is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Grave is doing well to control the position and prevent Rose from advancing to side control.
Rose thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Rose is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Grave to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.
Rose trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Rose trying to control the position from guard on top but Grave is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Rose slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Rose pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Grave is keeping the position for now.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Grave gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Rose engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Grave is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Rose trying to control the position from guard on top but Grave is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Grave has Rose pulled in close to control his posture.
Rose is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Boston MMA that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
Rose might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Rose wants to control from the top but Grave keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Rose shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Grave's guard.
Rose sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Grave's guard.
Rose is keen to just control but Grave is a slippery customer.
Rose tries to pass the half guard into mount. Grave knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Grave has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rose is working away from the top position though.
Rose is looking to take a break and control but Grave is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


A jab lands there for Grave.

Rose decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Rose is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Grave is refusing to be controlled, as Rose sits in half guard.
Rose prevents Grave from improving his position.
Rose is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Grave can do to turn this around?

Grave tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Rose manages to move to mount!

Grave tries to lock up and control but Rose gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Grave is squirming around, avoiding Rose's attempts to control the action.

Rose is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Grave is surviving well by controlling Rose's body position as best he can.
Grave tries to hold on but Rose pushes him away.
Rose lands a big elbow.

Rose working the ground and pound effectively.
Rose unloads with some shots from mount but Grave bucks and avoids them well.
Rose wants to control the pace but Grave is squirming around nicely.
Grave is working to get back to half guard.

Rose moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Grave has worked his arm free - good work by Grave!
Rose throwing strikes but missing, from side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rose working away.
Rose sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Grave is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Rose misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Rose advances nicely into full mount.
Grave is in all sorts of trouble here.

Rose goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Grave turns into him and now he's in Rose's guard.
Grave looking to sit in guard and control but Rose gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Grave keeping moving, preventing Rose from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Rose changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Grave tries to avoid it but Rose manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Grave to the ground. Grave escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Rose closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Rose lands in his opponent's guard.
Rose throws a big elbow that misses.
Rose slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Grave keeping moving, preventing Rose from controlling successfully.
Grave looking to control.

Grave is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Rose distracts Grave with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Rose stands and throws Grave's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Rose looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Rose landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Rose wants to control but Grave is keeping him busy.

Rose wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Grave, who protects the arm well.
Franz Grave has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Grave tries to bench press Rose off him but Rose keeps the position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Rose tries to score with some ground and pound. Grave controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Rose lands a decent elbow from side control.
Rose tries to advance to mount but can't.
Grave gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Grave is trying to control but can't.

Rose is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Grave has managed to free his arm - good work.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Rose moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Grave.

And that's the end of the fight!
Derick Rose showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Rose, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
