Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Normand Compton! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gustavo Folganes! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Alexandre Firmino and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Compton avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Folganes closes the distance and clinches. Folganes throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Compton blocks it with crossed arms. Compton is trying to break the clinch but Folganes is controlling him. Compton pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Compton dives in and grabs Folganes's left leg, looking for a takedown. Folganes pushes down on Compton's head and hops out. Compton circles away from the clinch attempt.
Compton really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Folganes moves in looking to clinch but Compton pushes him off. Gustavo Folganes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Folganes has taken the fight to the clinch.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Folganes tries to clinch up and Compton counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

Folganes wants to clinch but Compton slips to the side and Compton counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Compton. Compton gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Folganes moves to clinch but Compton breaks away and Compton counters with a takedown into side control. Compton fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Compton has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Compton throws a head kick that misses. Compton circles away from the clinch attempt and Compton counters with a takedown into side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Folganes prevents Compton from improving position. The ground and pound from Compton seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Compton decides to stand up, so the ref orders Folganes to his feet. Folganes darts in trying to clinch and Compton counters with a nice double leg into guard. Compton postures up in Folganes's guard and throws a big left but Folganes blocks it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Folganes keeping moving, preventing Compton from controlling successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Folganes preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Compton throwing strikes from guard but Folganes blocks nicely. Folganes avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Compton showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Folganes darts in trying to clinch and Compton counters by clinching up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Compton wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Compton takes a knee right on the jaw!

Normand Compton dominated that round. The cut man is working on Normand Compton's cut. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Compton shoots in and bounces Folganes off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Compton throws a strike but Folganes rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Folganes wants to control from the top but Compton keeps moving. Compton not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Compton is looking for a triangle but Folganes pushes his legs off easily.
Folganes has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Compton is proving hard to escape from. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Folganes accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Compton is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Folganes can do to turn this around? Folganes wants to control from the top but Compton keeps moving. Folganes throws a big right hand that misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Compton is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Compton is looking for a triangle but Folganes pushes his legs off easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Compton escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Folganes gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Folganes trying to control the position from guard on top but Compton is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Folganes wants to stand but Compton has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Compton has his feet on Folganes's thighs here. He's pushed Folganes off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Folganes screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
