PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Lou Hole (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and George Alvarez Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alvarez Jr is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: LL COOL J MOMMA SAY KNOCK YOU OUT. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, George Alvarez Jr!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Daniel Franklin and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hole throws out a powerful jab.
Alvarez Jr throws a lazy right hand but Hole sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Hole looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Alvarez Jr misses with a combination
and Hole cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Hole doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Alvarez Jr counters with a lovely straight right hand!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Alvarez Jr gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Hole to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Hole won't allow Alvarez Jr to get back to his feet.
Hole throwing strikes but missing.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hole passes Alvarez Jr's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Hole throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Hole thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Hole looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Alvarez Jr wants to get back to his feet.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Alvarez Jr is looking for a sweep. Hole is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Hole is looking for a kimura but Alvarez Jr is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Hole to get the leverage.
Alvarez Jr is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Alvarez Jr can do anything to dispel that myth.

Hole seems to be working for a kimura but Alvarez Jr defends the submission attempt.
Hole prevents Alvarez Jr from improving his position.
Hole has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Hole wants to lay and pray for a moment but Alvarez Jr keeps working.
Alvarez Jr trying to hold on to Hole's head to control him but Hole postures up.

Alvarez Jr tries to roll over but Hole keeps him under control.
Hole stops Alvarez Jr from getting back to his feet.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Alvarez Jr jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Alvarez Jr has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
Hole swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Alvarez Jr counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Alvarez Jr thuds his right hand into Hole's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Alvarez Jr looks to land a combination. Hole sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Alvarez Jr keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lou Hole. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hole misses with a double jab.
Alvarez Jr ducks under a wild hook from Hole.

and Alvarez Jr counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hole swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

and Alvarez Jr counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Hole thinking.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but George Alvarez Jr will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Alvarez Jr lands a nice shot to the body.
Alvarez Jr moves away from the strike by Hole.
Alvarez Jr throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Hole tries to clinch up.

Alvarez Jr throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Hole was covering up waiting for the punch and Alvarez Jr finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Alvarez Jr really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hole. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Alvarez Jr throws a big right hand that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hole escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Alvarez Jr gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Hole is trying to control the position but Alvarez Jr postures up.

Hole is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Hole is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Alvarez Jr has managed to free his arm - good work.

Hole is working for a kimura here but Alvarez Jr manages to reverse the position and he's now in Hole's guard.

Hole is looking for a triangle but Alvarez Jr pushes his legs off easily.

Hole working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Alvarez Jr doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Alvarez Jr manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hole lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hole accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Hole postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Hole is looking to take a break and control but Alvarez Jr is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Hole tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Hole is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Alvarez Jr is defending well.

Alvarez Jr decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Alvarez Jr throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Alvarez Jr chips away with some ground and pound.
Hole has momentary wrist control but Alvarez Jr slips an elbow through the middle.
Lou Hole overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Hole has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Alvarez Jr can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Alvarez Jr wants to control from the top but Hole keeps moving.
Hole is trying to keep Alvarez Jr in close.

Hole is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Alvarez Jr pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hole is keeping the position for now.

Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

Alvarez Jr trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Hole manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Hole is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Alvarez Jr is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hole is controlling him.

Hole drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hole jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Alvarez Jr can't keep his opponent in guard - Hole advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Alvarez Jr keeping hold of Hole's head, controlling as best he can.
Alvarez Jr looks like he's trying to stand up.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to George Alvarez Jr.
I think Alvarez Jr has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
