PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eli Patel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and William Regal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, William Regal!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Sam Margolis and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Regal manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Patel on his heels. He'll look to pass Patel's guard now, I'm sure.
Regal lands a couple of digs.
Regal wants to pass the guard but Patel is keeping the position.
Regal sitting in guard here, content to control.
It looks like Regal might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Regal drops back looking for a leg! Patel is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Patel manages to kick Regal off! Regal jumps back into Patel's guard.

Regal gets to his feet - Patel follows without any prompting.
Regal throws a right and a left that Patel avoids nicely.

Regal closes the distance and clinches.
Patel wants to get back to striking at distance but Regal won't allow it.

Regal pulls Patel into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Regal uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Regal closes the distance and pushes Patel back into the cage.

Patel is trying to break the clinch but Regal has him pressed against the cage.
A head punch on the inside from Patel fails to land.
Patel has had enough of the clinch but Regal keeps him there for the moment.

Patel could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Regal wants to get back to striking at distance but Patel won't allow it.

Regal successfully pulls guard.

Regal throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Regal is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Patel defends well.

Regal is looking to sweep but instead, Patel has passed into half guard.

Regal wants to get back to full guard but Patel has mounted him!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Regal is in all sorts of trouble here.
Regal tries to hold on but Patel postures up.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Regal fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Patel to the ground. Regal is now in Patel's guard.
Patel looking to hit a scissor sweep but Regal is one step ahead there.

Regal stands up and waves to Patel to follow him.

Regal is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Patel's half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Regal moves nicely into side control.
The ground and pound from Regal seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Regal stands up and beckons Patel to his feet.

Patel gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Regal to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Regal stays in close to Patel's body and controls the position.

Patel is working an open guard so Regal takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Regal closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Patel did well to prevent Regal getting side control.
Regal thows a huge punch but Patel dodges it nicely.

Regal passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Patel!
Patel is desperately trying to improve his position but Regal has a good base and remains in mount.

Regal looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Regal content just to control the position here.

Regal goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Patel is on top in guard.
Regal pulls Patel in close to his closed guard and prevents Patel from doing any damage or advancing position.
Regal wants to hit a switch here but Patel passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Regal there!

Patel trying to control but he's not successful this time.
You get the feeling that Regal really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Regal really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Regal wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Regal trying to control but not successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

William Regal showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Patel gets caught napping as Regal dives in and scores a takedown. Patel manages to retain guard.
Regal is pushing down on Patel's leg trying to pass to half guard. Patel is fighting to maintain full guard but Regal has managed to sneak the leg through.
Regal tries to pass to full mount but Patel defends it.
Regal trying to control the pace.
Patel tries to roll over but Regal keeps him under control.

Regal is working for a submission of some sort.
Patel wants to get back to full guard.
Regal keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Patel tries to sprawl but Regal drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Still in half guard, Regal seems content to control.

Regal is looking for a kimura here.
William Regal has got the better of the ground game so far.

Regal is looking for a kimura but Patel is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Regal to get the leverage.
Regal performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Patel wants to get back to full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Regal shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Regal showed some decent athleticism there.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Regal looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Regal thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Patel's head.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Regal stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Eli Patel has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
William Regal is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Regal feints and as Patel raises his hands in defense, Regal changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
William Regal comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Regal has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
