Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Newton Barlow! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bobby Nelson! The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, David Schapiro and Steve Montenegro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nelson gets the takedown into side control. Barlow managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Nelson.
Barlow is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Nelson asserts his dominance and retains side control. Both fighters take a look at the clock. Nelson throwing strikes but Barlow manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control! Nelson struggling a bit here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nelson is looking for a sweep. Nelson tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Nelson can do anything to dispel that myth.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Barlow lands a heavy elbow. Nelson is working to get back to half guard.
Barlow lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Nelson hang on? Barlow blocks Nelson's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom. Barlow lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Barlow could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Barlow working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Barlow landing punches. Nelson is trying desperately to improve position. Barlow lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Nelson hang on? Nelson wants to try and get back to his feet. Barlow lands a couple of good shots and Nelson has given up his back, trying to escape the position! Barlow has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Nelson is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nelson is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Nelson looks winded! Barlow working for a choke but Nelson is defending well. Nelson tries to roll but Barlow sticks to his back.
Barlow lands an elbow to the side of the head. Barlow wants to control but Nelson is keeping busy. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Barlow uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Nelson. Barlow shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Nelson as he avoids it easily. Nelson looks to score with a jab to the body but Barlow is just out of range. Nelson looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Barlow is trying to get back to full guard. Nelson wants to take a breather but Barlow is having none of it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Barlow moves into full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Nelson tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Barlow counters with a takedown into side control. Barlow working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Nelson tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Barlow wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Nelson trying his best to control but Barlow has mounted him. Barlow is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Nelson can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Barlow has control of Nelson's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Nelson regains control of the situation pretty easily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Barlow landing strikes from the mount and Nelson is in trouble! Barlow is landing with some decent strikes but Nelson is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Nelson tries to lock up and control but Barlow gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Nelson working to try and regain half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Newton Barlow dominated that second round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
Nelson closes the distance but Barlow moves to the side and Barlow counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena. Nelson thuds a left hand into Barlow's body. Nelson tries to clinch but Barlow moves out of range. Barlow fails with the takedown. Nelson shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Barlow napping and manages to drive through into side control! We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nelson tries to move to mount but Barlow blocks the move with his legs. Nelson trying to control the position but Barlow is working away. Nelson with the ground and pound but Barlow regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Barlow is trying to stand up here but Nelson is controlling him well. Nelson is trying to work for a kimura but Barlow is defending well.
Nelson is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Nelson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Nelson is thwarting Barlow's attempts to control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Nelson looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Barlow is trying to stand.
Barlow is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Nelson prevents Barlow from standing back up.
Barlow is refusing to be controlled, as Nelson sits in half guard. Barlow kicks Nelson off and gets back to his feet. Newton Barlow is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nelson closes the distance looking to clinch and Barlow counters with a right hand to the body. Nelson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Barlow manages to get to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Nelson wants to control from the top but Barlow keeps moving. Barlow is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Barlow trying to control from half guard but Nelson is working away. Bobby Nelson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Newton Barlow is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Nelson has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Barlow escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Barlow!
