PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jeromy Richmond (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Pabalinas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pabalinas has chosen Afrojack ft martin garrix turn up the speakers as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jeromy Richmond!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Pabalinas!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Chris Downing and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pabalinas changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Richmond looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Pabalinas throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Richmond works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Richmond is trying to stand.

Pabalinas seems to be looking for submissions.
Richmond misses with some strikes from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Pabalinas seems to be working for a kimura but Richmond defends the submission attempt.
Pabalinas has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Richmond is staying active underneath Pabalinas, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Richmond gets back to full guard.
Pabalinas throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Richmond is working an open guard so Pabalinas takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Pabalinas shoots in and gets a takedown into Richmond's guard.
Pabalinas trying to control the position from guard on top but Richmond is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Richmond is looking to stand up but Pabalinas isn't so interested in that idea.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Pabalinas accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Richmond had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Pabalinas defends it easily.
Pabalinas prevents Richmond from getting back to his feet.
Pabalinas seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Richmond escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Pabalinas gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Richmond moves out of range of the body kick from Pabalinas.

Pabalinas has Richmond up against the cage in a clinch.
A nice right hand lands inside from Pabalinas.
Richmond tries to pull guard but Pabalinas holds him up against the cage and eventually Richmond drops back down to his feet.

Pabalinas breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Pabalinas shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Pabalinas showed some decent athleticism there.
Pabalinas is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Pabalinas goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Richmond is on top in guard.
Richmond slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Pabalinas is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Richmond looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Pabalinas is fending him off so far but Richmond persists. Nope, Pabalinas circles away and we're back to standing.

Pabalinas feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Pabalinas avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Pabalinas has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Pabalinas is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Richmond is squirming around, avoiding Pabalinas's attempts to control the action.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Pabalinas throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Richmond because Pabalinas loaded up on that one.
Pabalinas lands a big elbow.
Pabalinas tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Pabalinas trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Pabalinas blocks Richmond's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Richmond is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Richmond swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.

Pabalinas is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Richmond to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Richmond shrugs it off.

Mike Pabalinas showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Richmond closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Pabalinas wants to break the clinch but can't.

Pabalinas gets control of Richmond's arms and successfully pulls guard. Pabalinas will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Pabalinas doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Pabalinas is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Richmond content to stall in guard here.
Richmond will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Jeromy Richmond is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Pabalinas manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Richmond on his heels. He'll look to pass Richmond's guard now, I'm sure.

Richmond is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Pabalinas is aware though and is defending well.

Pabalinas drives through and clinches with Richmond against the cage.
Richmond has Pabalinas pressed against the cage, preventing Pabalinas from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Richmond pulls guard successfully.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Pabalinas. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Richmond throws his legs up looking for a submission but Pabalinas uses it to pass to side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Poor strikes thrown by Pabalinas there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Well Pabalinas has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
