Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Geraldo Banks! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Carly Sarmiento! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Robert Twigg and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Oh, that's a big right hand from Sarmiento and Banks goes tumbling to the canvas! Sarmiento follows him to the ground and looks to finish from half guard.
It looks like Geraldo Banks has been cut. Sarmiento working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Banks is rocked! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Banks wants to get back to his feet. Oh Banks is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Sarmiento is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Banks defends it well. Sarmiento working Banks over with strikes. Banks has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Sarmiento is on him like a limpet, forcing Banks back against the cage. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Sarmiento is trying to break free. Sarmiento has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Sarmiento pulls guard successfully.
Banks looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Banks has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Sarmiento wants to get back to his feet but Banks is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Banks seems to have got his legs back now. Banks gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Sarmiento swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Banks counters with an outside leg kick.
Sarmiento looks winded! Banks swinging wildly here.
Sarmiento throws a leg kick and Banks counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Banks lands with a right to the head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sarmiento wants to break free but Banks has control.
Banks pushes Sarmiento back against the cage and unloads with a body punch. Banks manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Sarmiento is sitting in close to Banks's body. Banks has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Sarmiento is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Sarmiento is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Banks.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Geraldo Banks!
