PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chuck Liddell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dory Kanyon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chuck Liddell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dory Kanyon!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, George Francis and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kanyon looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Liddell!
Liddell tries to control Kanyon's body but Kanyon pushes him off. Liddell squirms to his side and now Kanyon has his back!
Kanyon controls the action.
Liddell covering up well and avoiding damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kanyon is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at Liddell. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped.

Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Kanyon.
Kanyon is hanging on to Liddell's back as he tries to escape.
Kanyon connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for Liddell to escape the position.

Kanyon is controlling the position but Liddell somehow manages to roll and ends up with half guard.
Kanyon is keen to just control but Liddell is a slippery customer.

Kanyon is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Liddell has managed to free his arm - good work.
Kanyon is taking a breather. Liddell says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Liddell is pressing down on Kanyon's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Liddell wants to get back to his feet but Kanyon is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Kanyon not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Liddell wants to stand up but Kanyon is controlling him.

Liddell scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Kanyon takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Kanyon closes this distance looking for a takedown but Liddell circles away.
Kanyon doesn't manage to clinch there - Liddell circles away.

Liddell takes a little break here. Kanyon wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Liddell drives through with a takedown into guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kanyon can do anything to dispel that myth.
Kanyon pulls Liddell in close to his closed guard and prevents Liddell from doing any damage or advancing position.

Liddell postures up.
Liddell is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Chuck Liddell will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Kanyon avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Kanyon has his takedown stuffed
and Liddell counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Liddell throws a right hand that Kanyon ducks under and follows up with a left that Kanyon also avoids with ease.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Liddell wants to stand up but Kanyon has a hold of him and won't allow it.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Liddell throws a body punch but Kanyon moves out of range.

Kanyon misses with a jab, cross combination.
Kanyon throws a wild body kick that Liddell sees coming a mile off.

Kanyon clinches.
Liddell wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Kanyon has him pressed against the cage.
Liddell is looking to break free of the clinch but Kanyon has double underhooks.

Kanyon drops down looking for an ankle pick but Liddell pulls his leg out and moves away.
Chuck Liddell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dory Kanyon.

and Liddell counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kanyon won't be happy with that.
Liddell wants to control but Kanyon is keeping him busy.

Kanyon can't do much from the bottom here.
Kanyon sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Kanyon is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Liddell pulls his head out easily.

Liddell is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kanyon defends it well.

Liddell stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Kanyon rushes Liddell and presses him up against the cage.

Liddell throws a punch but it's blocked by Kanyon.

Liddell wants to control from the top but Kanyon keeps moving.
Kanyon tries to strike from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chuck Liddell dominated that second round.
That's time! Liddell's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Kanyon shoots in and drives through. Liddell sprawls well.
Chuck Liddell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dory Kanyon.
Liddell wants to clinch

and Kanyon counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Kanyon.
Kanyon must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Kanyon looking to sit in guard and control but Liddell gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Liddell stands and steps away. Kanyon gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Kanyon tries to keep at a distance but Liddell has taken the fight into the clinch.

Liddell has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Kanyon uses from the top position.

Kanyon gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Kanyon closes this distance looking for a takedown but Liddell circles away.
Liddell throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Kanyon on the side of the head.

Kanyon shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Liddell bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kanyon's guard.

Kanyon looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Liddell pushes Kanyon off looking to stand but Kanyon dives back in and keeps control.
Liddell holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Liddell is trying to control but Kanyon passes into side control!

Kanyon remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Kanyon is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Liddell has escaped the position, nice work there.

Chuck Liddell is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Liddell takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Kanyon goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Liddell rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Kanyon's guard! Nice work there by Liddell!

And that's the end of the fight!
Dory Kanyon comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Liddell has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
