Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Heriberto Nichols (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Luis Barros (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Heriberto Nichols!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Luis Barros!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Dmitry Maklakov and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nichols closes the distance and clinches up with Barros, looking for a takedown. Nichols pushes Barros against the cage but Barros circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Barros rushes Nichols and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Barros stalling the fight.
Nichols wants to break free but Barros has control.
Nichols has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Barros avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Nichols is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Barros gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Heriberto Nichols. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Nichols really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Barros drops back, looking for a kneebar! Nichols looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Nichols looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Nichols!

Barros is trying to improve his position.

Nichols stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Luis Barros seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nichols misses with a hook. Barros ducked under it nicely.

and Barros decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Nichols's guard.

Barros would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Barros can do anything to dispel that myth.

Nichols stands and steps away. Barros gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Nichols shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Barros defends it nicely.

Nichols gets caught flat footed, as Barros shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Barros is pressing down on Nichols's thigh, looking to free his foot. Nichols is holding on for now.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Barros is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Barros is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Nichols is just riding it out for now. Barros eventually gives up the hold.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

and Nichols counters with a stiff right hand.

Barros closes the distance and pushes Nichols back into the cage.
Nichols has Barros pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Barros manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Nichols wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Barros decides to pull guard.
Barros doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Barros utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Barros working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nichols doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nichols manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Nichols seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Nichols darts in looking for a takedown but Barros gets double underhooks and turns Nichols into the cage.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Barros shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Nichols manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Nichols will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Barros's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Nichols shoots in and bounces Barros off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Luis Barros showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

enabling Nichols to counter with a crisp jab.

Nichols is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Barros in particular looking to stall.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Barros.
Barros really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nichols. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

You can see the frustration on Nichols's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Nichols tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Barros wants to lay and pray for a moment but Nichols keeps working.

A lull in the action here.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Barros tries to score with some ground and pound. Nichols controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

and Nichols counters with an outside leg kick.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Nichols has his takedown stuffed

and Barros counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Barros wants to stand but Nichols is controlling his posture from full guard.

Luis Barros comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Barros has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
