Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Francois Permitis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
17 - 19 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brian Serrano! The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Saam Ante and Wagner Zegers.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Serrano shoots in but no luck this time. Serrano tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Permitis paws at him with a jab and circles away. Permitis leaves Serrano with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Permitis tries to counter with a takedown but Serrano is quick to defend against it. Permitis shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Serrano as he jumps to the side. Serrano looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Francois Permitis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brian Serrano. Permitis stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Permitis wants it to stay on the feet. Permitis keeps the fight on the outside. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Serrano tries to clinch there but Permitis circles away.
Permitis looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Serrano fails with a takedown attempt. Serrano misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Permitis feinted with a counter takedown. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Serrano is defended easily by Permitis.
That's one minute gone in the round. Serrano with a lazy takedown attempt and Permitis counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Serrano looks winded! Permitis looking for a takedown here - he's got it. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Permitis controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Serrano keeping moving, preventing Permitis from controlling successfully. Permitis throwing strikes from guard but Serrano blocks nicely. Serrano wants to stand and escape but Permitis is having none of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Serrano working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Permitis. Permitis wants to pass the guard but Serrano is keeping the position. Permitis loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Serrano utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Serrano will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Permitis half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Serrano throws a right hand that misses
and Permitis counters with a shoot takedown. Serrano fights it but they end up in guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Permitis pushes down on Serrano's leg and manages to get into half guard. Permitis looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Serrano pushes Permitis off and gets back to his feet. Serrano shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Permitis attempts a counter takedown but Serrano avoids it well and moves away.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Serrano accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Serrano tries to free his leg and advance position but Permitis is retaining full guard. Serrano is looking to stand up but Permitis won't let him. Permitis is trying to control the position but Serrano postures up. Serrano throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Permitis works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Serrano is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Permitis, into his guard. Serrano loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Serrano stands up from Permitis's guard - Serrano perhaps looking for a knockout. Permitis shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Serrano manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Permitis is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Serrano can do to turn this around? Serrano working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Permitis. Permitis throws a big elbow that misses. Serrano wants to work for an arm triangle but Permitis is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Serrano is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Permitis is trying to get back to full guard.

Serrano must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Permitis looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Brian Serrano. Well Permitis has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
