PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Victor Rush (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rush comes to the cage accompanied by Voodoo Child. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Victor Rush!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kevin Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Daniel Franklin and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rush displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Rush looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Johnson slips a jab from Rush.
Johnson fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Rush looks to land a combination but Johnson avoids it well.

Johnson manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Rush on his heels. He'll look to pass Rush's guard now, I'm sure.
Johnson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rush escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Johnson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Rush is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Johnson defends well.

Johnson drops back looking for a leg! Rush is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Rush manages to kick Johnson off! Johnson jumps back into Rush's guard.
Johnson trying to control the position from guard on top but Rush is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Rush throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Johnson escapes and throws Rush's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

Rush is trying to improve his position.
Johnson moves into full mount!
Rush tries to hold on but Johnson pushes him away.

Johnson is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Rush is surviving well by controlling Johnson's body position as best he can.
Rush is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Johnson looking for a guillotine from mount but Rush is having none of it.
Rush is desperately trying to improve his position but Johnson has a good base and remains in mount.
Johnson looking to control but Rush is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Rush stops Johnson from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Johnson is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Rush can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Rush has given up his back here.

Johnson keeps control of the position easily here as Rush tries to buck him off.

Rush is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

Johnson is looking for the choke from the back position but Rush is controlling his hands well.

Johnson is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Rush is defending well though. Johnson let's go of the attempt for now.
Rush breaks Johnson's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rush tries to stand but Johnson is controlling from the bottom.

Rush got a little sloppy there for a moment and Johnson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rush has managed to get both his arms back between Johnson's legs - danger averted.
Rush trying to control the position from guard on top but Johnson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Johnson is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rush defends well.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Johnson manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Rush pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Johnson shoots in and drives through. Rush sprawls well.
Johnson checks a leg kick.
Rush swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Johnson wants to counter the offense by Rush and move into the clinch position.
Rush throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
A lazy left from Rush finds it's target.
Rush throws a combination. Johnson tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kevin Johnson dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Johnson walks into a left hand.
Rush misses with a wild combination.
Johnson tries to counter by closing the distance.
Rush connects with a body shot.
Rush throws a body kick that misses.
A cross from Rush lands.
Rush tries to work over Johnson's front leg with a kick but Johnson checks it.
Victor Rush seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rush defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Johnson.
Rush lands a head shot.
Rush dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Johnson shoots in but Rush avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Johnson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rush tries to avoid it but Johnson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rush to the ground. Rush escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Victor Rush has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kevin Johnson.

Johnson gets the takedown into side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Johnson tries to advance to mount but Rush denies him.
Rush tries to escape but Johnson is in control.
Kevin Johnson has got the better of the ground game so far.
Rush is looking to reverse the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Johnson works to advance to full mount. Rush defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rush is looking to improve his position but Johnson isn't that keen on the idea.
Johnson tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Rush is wriggling around trying to escape.
Johnson trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Johnson controlling from mount.

Johnson has control of Rush's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Rush regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Rush is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rush prevents Johnson from taking his back.
Johnson trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Johnson working for a guillotine from mount but Rush is in no mood to give up.
Johnson wants to control the pace but Rush is squirming around nicely.
Rush wants to try and get back to his feet.
Rush has given up his back here.

Johnson has managed to slip his arm under Rush's chin. This could be all over... yep, Rush is tapping out! Submission win for Johnson.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Kevin Johnson!
Kevin Johnson thanked the fans post fight for their support.
In defeat, Victor Rush stepped up to the mic, saying 'I need to do better. I was flat and dry and just didn't execute. I apologize to the fans. You deserve better. I owe you one.'.
