Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Djeko Furoni (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andre Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Djeko Furoni! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Andre Rua! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Seu Braga and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rua clinches up against the cage. Furoni wants to take the fight to the mat but Rua manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Furoni definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Furoni can't get the takedown.
Rua swings wildly with an uppercut but Furoni uses good head movement to avoid it. Furoni fails to pull the fight into his guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Djeko Furoni. That's going to take a lot out of him. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Furoni is looking for a takedown.
That's one minute gone in the round. Furoni jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Rua walks away with a smile on his face. Furoni gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Furoni shoots in for a takedown but Rua shows good takedown defense. Furoni dives in for a single leg takedown but Rua sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Furoni manages to pull guard.

Furoni is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Rua is aware though and is defending well. Furoni keeping full guard, as Rua tries to pass. Furoni escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rua gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Furoni has a closed guard, preventing Rua from standing up. Furoni has his foot on Rua's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rua works his way back into a safe position though. Rua trying to stand up but can't free himself from Furoni's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Rua fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Furoni, pushing him back against the cage. Furoni tries for a takedown. No joy.
Furoni drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Rua gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Rua lands a right hand. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rua takes the fight into the clinch. Rua pushes Furoni back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head. Rua looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Rua has Furoni pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Rua pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Furoni tumbling to the mat - Rua dives into Furoni's guard. Furoni is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Furoni working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rua doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rua manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Furoni working for a triangle but Rua defends it easily.
Rua wanted to stand there but Furoni had control of the position. Rua is sitting in close to Furoni's body. Furoni has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Rua is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Rua is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Furoni.
