PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Erin Jenkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Stark (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Erin Jenkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tony Stark!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Francis DeMontford and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stark fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Jenkins scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Stark blocks a leg kick.
Stark shoots in and drives through. Jenkins sprawls well.
Jenkins lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Stark backs up against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Stark shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Stark tries to stand but Jenkins is controlling from the bottom.

Stark won't allow Jenkins to sweep him here.

Stark decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Stark displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Jenkins.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Jenkins darts in and clinches Stark up against the cage.

Jenkins connects with a leg kick. Stark looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

Stark throws a head kick that misses
and Jenkins connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Stark fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Erin Jenkins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tony Stark.

Stark rushes Jenkins and presses him up against the cage.
Stark is looking for a takedown.
We've been informed that Stark has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Jenkins has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Stark off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Jenkins closes the distance and clinches up with Stark, looking for a takedown. Jenkins pushes Stark against the cage but Stark circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Jenkins closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Stark fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Jenkins, pushing him back against the cage.
Stark blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Stark has hold of one of Jenkins's legs. Jenkins is fighting the takedown attempt but Stark gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jenkins has control of Stark's left arm, preventing Stark from doing any damage.
Jenkins is trying to keep Stark in close.

Jenkins has a closed guard, preventing Stark from standing up.
Jenkins will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Stark prevents Jenkins from getting back to his feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Jenkins fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Jenkins dives in and scores a takedown into Stark's guard.

Stark is controlling Jenkins's posture.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Stark preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Stark wriggles free and stands up.
Jenkins will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Jenkins gets caught flat footed, as Stark shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Jenkins has his hands on Stark's head, controlling the position.

Jenkins has a closed guard, preventing Stark from standing up.

Stark stands up from Jenkins's guard - Stark perhaps looking for a knockout.
Stark shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Jenkins as he avoids it easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Jenkins fails with the takedown
and Stark counters with a nice body kick.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Stark looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Stark has closed the distance and engaged Jenkins in a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tony Stark showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Jenkins scores with a one two! Stark had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Jenkins misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Jenkins is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Stark can do to turn this around?
No joy there for Jenkins, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Jenkins tries to score a power double leg takedown but Stark sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Jenkins somewhat.
Erin Jenkins is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Jenkins throws a series of punches but Stark avoids them all with ease.
Erin Jenkins is winning the standup battle so far.

Stark closes the distance and clinches.
Jenkins lands with a short shot to the head.

Jenkins jumps guard but Stark stands there with Jenkins around his waist. Jenkins gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Come on Jenkins - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Jenkins tries a body shot but Stark blocks it.
Jenkins avoiding damage.
Jenkins is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Stark is defending well for now.

Jenkins is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Jenkins looking for a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Erin Jenkins. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jenkins wants to get back to striking at distance but Stark won't allow it.
Stark is trying to drag Jenkins to the mat but Jenkins just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Jenkins drags the fight down to the ground.
Stark wants to get up but he can't break Jenkins's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Stark wants to control from the top but Jenkins keeps moving.
Stark wants to stand but Jenkins has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Stark gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Jenkins tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Stark paws at him with a jab and circles away.

And that's the end of the fight!
Erin Jenkins showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Jenkins has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
