Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Billy Backhand! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Tex Anderton! The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Steven Brown and James Atkins.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Backhand shoots in looking for a takedown. Anderton tries to sprawl out of it but Backhand keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Anderton manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Backhand tries to bum rush Anderton with a series of wild strikes but Anderton uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Anderton fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Backhand misses with a takedown attempt - Anderton sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Anderton tries to close the distance and clinch up but Backhand swats him away and circles back towards the center. Billy Backhand seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Anderton tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Backhand paws at him with a jab and circles away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Anderton throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Backhand closes the distance and clinches up with Anderton, looking for a takedown. Backhand pushes Anderton against the ropes but Anderton circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Billy Backhand. That's going to take a lot out of him. Backhand lands with a nice combination. Anderton backs away looking to recover. Backhand throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Anderton. Backhand looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Backhand looks for a takedown but Anderton sprawls well. Backhand throws a right hand that Anderton ducks under and follows up with a left that Anderton also avoids with ease.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Backhand misses with a takedown attempt - Anderton sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Backhand tries to clinch but Anderton moves away and Anderton counters with a series of strikes that sends Backhand to the canvas! Anderton follows down into guard, looking to finish the fight! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Anderton sitting in guard here, content to control. I looks like Anderton might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Backhand wants to stand up but Anderton is controlling him. Backhand is breathing heavily. Anderton slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Backhand is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Anderton controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Anderton looking to pass the guard. Backhand wants to get back to his feet but Anderton is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Anderton really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Backhand. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Anderton looking to pass the guard. Backhand keeping moving, preventing Anderton from controlling successfully. Backhand wants to stand and escape but Anderton is having none of it. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Anderton scoring with some ground and pound. Backhand being controlled here, momentarily. Anderton throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Backhand works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Backhand is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Anderton stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Backhand swivels though and keeps the full guard. Anderton content to stall in guard here. Anderton lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Anderton scoring with some ground and pound. Anderton is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Tex Anderton dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Anderton gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Anderton gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Backhand.
Anderton gets control of Backhand's arms and successfully pulls guard. Anderton will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Backhand thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Anderton wants to sweep but no luck. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Anderton has Backhand pulled in close to control his posture. Anderton wants to sweep here but Backhand controlling him for the moment. Backhand wanted to stand there but Anderton had control of the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Anderton pulls Backhand in close to his closed guard and prevents Backhand from doing any damage or advancing position. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Despite being in the dominant position, Tex Anderton just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Anderton fails in his attempt to clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Backhand misses with a wild combination.
Backhand misses with a takedown attempt and Anderton counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Anderton. Anderton lands with a right to the head.
It looks like Billy Backhand has been cut. The referee calls for Anderton to work.
Backhand tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Anderton smiles and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Billy Backhand. That's going to take a lot out of him. Anderton fakes a right and follows up with a big left that drops Backhand to one knee - oooooh, he's wobbly! Backhand looks to clinch but Anderton throws him off and pummels him into the canvas! Backhand taps out under the strikes! The fight is over!
