PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tero Elo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Harry Callahan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tired and clearly flustered, he entered the arena late and after a little discussion it was decided that the bout should take place.
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tero Elo and Harry Callahan. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Tero Elo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 11 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Harry Callahan!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Robert Douchet and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Elo takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Callahan throws a sloppy head kick and Elo moves out of range easily.
Elo fails with a takedown attempt.
Horrible takedown attempt by Elo or perhaps it was just good defense by Callahan, which made it look bad.
Callahan unleashes a big counter combination but Elo bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Elo uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Callahan.
Elo changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Callahan lands with an uppercut that bounces Elo off the cage and back into range.
Elo looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Elo takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Elo fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tero Elo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Callahan fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Elo manages to avoid it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Elo dives in and scores a takedown into Callahan's guard.
Callahan is trying to keep Elo in close.

Elo drops back looking for a leg! Callahan is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Callahan manages to kick Elo off! Elo jumps back into Callahan's guard.
Elo won't allow Callahan to sweep him here.

Callahan bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Elo's guard.


Callahan avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Callahan trying to control but Elo is working from the bottom.
Elo trying to keep a closed guard but Callahan is proving a slippery customer.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Callahan lands a couple of decent looking shots.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Callahan stands and throws Elo's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Callahan in side control lands a decent elbow.
Elo defending against the ground and pound.
Elo is looking for a sweep.
Callahan trying to control the action but Elo is working from the bottom.
Elo wants to control but Callahan postures up.
Elo is trying to improve his position.
Elo manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Callahan not doing much here.
Elo is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Callahan perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Elo wants to improve his position but Callahan is controlling well.
Callahan wants to control but Elo is keeping him busy.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Elo trying to control but Callahan postures up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Callahan throws a body shot but no joy.
Elo shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Callahan defends it nicely.
Callahan lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Elo circles away quickly and effectively.
Callahan misses with a hook. Elo ducked under it nicely.
Elo closes this distance looking for a takedown but Callahan circles away.
Some bone on bone action there as Elo checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Elo.

Tero Elo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Elo moves out of range as Callahan strikes.
Callahan throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Elo scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Callahan wants to improve his position but Elo is controlling well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Harry Callahan dominated that round.
That's time! Elo's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Callahan ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Elo moves away.
Elo shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Callahan as he avoids it easily.

Elo decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Callahan is looking to control Elo's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Callahan avoid being mounted?
Callahan has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Callahan is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Elo pulls his head out easily.
Callahan wants to control but Elo is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Elo is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Elo closes the distance and clinches up with Callahan, looking for a takedown. Elo pushes Callahan against the cage but Callahan circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Elo fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

A slapping leg kick lands for Callahan.
Elo doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Callahan connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Elo drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Elo is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Callahan has escaped the position, nice work there.
Callahan manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Harry Callahan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Callahan misses with a head kick.
Callahan looks to land a right hand but Elo moved out of range.
Elo dives in and grabs Callahan's left leg, looking for a takedown. Callahan pushes down on Elo's head and hops out.
Elo shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Callahan pinned against the cage. Callahan gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
No luck for Elo with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tero Elo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Callahan cracks Elo with a right hand to the side of the head.

Elo closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Callahan to the mat! Callahan manages to get full guard.

Callahan wants to stand but Elo is controlling the position.
Callahan manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Elo manages to get himself to full guard.

Callahan slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Callahan slips nicely into half guard.
Callahan winds up and cracks Elo with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Callahan throwing shots but Elo is blocking nicely.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Callahan is looking to take a break and control but Elo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Elo moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Callahan postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Callahan wants to control from the top but Elo keeps moving.

Elo lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Elo looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Elo wants to control from the top but Callahan keeps moving.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Elo dives in for a single leg takedown but Callahan sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Elo takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Elo changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Callahan tries to avoid it but Elo manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Callahan to the ground. Callahan escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Elo tries to score a power double leg takedown but Callahan sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Elo somewhat.
Tero Elo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Callahan pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Callahan throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Callahan slips a straight right by Elo.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Elo tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Callahan defends well and Elo ends up having to push Callahan into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
It seemed like Callahan was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Callahan throws a looping overhand right but Elo ducks down to avoid it.
Callahan connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Elo shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Callahan defends it nicely.

And that's the end of the fight!
Harry Callahan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Callahan winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
