PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Peter Kent (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Romeo Bellanca (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kent comes to the cage accompanied by I'll be Back. Bellanca has chosen Nightmare by Avenged Sevenfold as his entrance music. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 19 - 4, fighting out of Tokyo, Peter Kent!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 16 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Romeo Bellanca!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kent tries for a takedown but Bellanca circles away easily
and Bellanca counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Bellanca gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Kent wants to control from the top but Bellanca keeps moving.
Kent is really struggling to control Bellanca but he's trying to hold on to the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bellanca has control of Kent's left arm, preventing Kent from doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kent controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kent wants to control from the top but Bellanca keeps moving.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Kent stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bellanca swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Kent misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Bellanca shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Kent wants to sweep but no luck.
Bellanca forces his way into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bellanca wants to free his trapped foot but Kent is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kent is refusing to be controlled, as Bellanca sits in half guard.
Bellanca slows the pace down in half guard.

Bellanca is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Kent has managed to free his arm - good work.

Bellanca is just content to waste time from the top position. Kent takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Bellanca works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Bellanca has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Kent is squirming around, avoiding Bellanca's attempts to control the action.
Kent is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Kent slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Kent has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Bellanca is working away from the top position though.
Bellanca trying to control the action but Kent is working from the bottom.
Bellanca might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Kent haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kent is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Romeo Bellanca dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Kent shoots in and bounces Bellanca off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Kent is stalling in the full guard.
Kent works over Bellanca with some ground and pound from guard.
Peter Kent overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Kent is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Bellanca is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Bellanca has escaped and now he's on top!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kent working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bellanca doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bellanca manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Bellanca stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kent swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Kent has Bellanca pulled in close to control his posture.
Kent is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Bellanca controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Bellanca must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Kent has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bellanca can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Kent is looking for a triangle but Bellanca pushes his legs off easily.
Kent not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Bellanca pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kent is keeping the position for now.
Bellanca is pushing down on Kent's leg trying to pass to half guard. Kent is fighting to maintain full guard but Bellanca has managed to sneak the leg through.

The fighters are battling for position here. Kent manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bellanca won't allow Kent to get back to his feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kent dives in and grabs Bellanca's left leg, looking for a takedown. Bellanca pushes down on Kent's head and hops out.
Kent tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bellanca sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kent somewhat.
Bellanca tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Bellanca looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Kent is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Kent tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Bellanca counters with a head kick. That will keep Kent thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

That was a close second round but I would say that Peter Kent will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Kent dives in for a single leg takedown but Bellanca sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Kent drags the fight down to the ground.
Kent is trying to keep Bellanca in close.
Bellanca tries to free his leg and advance position but Kent is retaining full guard.
Kent lands some strikes from the bottom.
Bellanca trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Bellanca trying to control the position from guard on top but Kent is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Bellanca fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kent sprawls well initially but Bellanca persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Kent manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Peter Kent seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Kent rushes Bellanca and presses him up against the cage.
Kent wants a takedown but no success here.
Kent goes for a takedown attempt but Bellanca pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Peter Kent. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kent tries to clinch but Bellanca is having none of it.

Kent looks for a takedown but Bellanca sprawls well.

Bellanca fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Kent to the ground. Bellanca is now in Kent's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Bellanca is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Kent!

Kent is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Kent has given up his back.
Bellanca slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Kent tries to escape but Bellanca has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Kent wants to get back to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kent wants to control his opponent's hands but Bellanca gets his hands free.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Bellanca controlling the positon.
Kent tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

And that's the end of the fight!
Romeo Bellanca comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Bellanca has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
