Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Phil Brooks! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
18 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Floyd Howard! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Frank Dennis and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Brooks shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Howard counters by clinching up. Howard has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Brooks regains guard immediately. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Howard trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Howard avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Howard really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Brooks. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Howard sitting in guard here, content to control. Howard stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Brooks swivels though and keeps the full guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Brooks tries to land a sweep but no joy. Brooks is working hard here to advance position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Brooks will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Brooks utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Howard is stalling in the full guard. Howard passes Brooks's left leg - he's now in half guard. Brooks is trying to get back to full guard. Howard tries to pass to full mount but Brooks defends it. Brooks moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Brooks is looking for a triangle but Howard pushes his legs off easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Brooks is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Brooks looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Howard is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Brooks pulls his head out easily. Howard is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Brooks maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Howard could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Brooks has cracked it and Howard is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Brooks!
